Grim Dog Studios
Hi all, My friend who took a long break from 40k is getting back into and is starting a Death Korps force. He's just informed he has bought a Stormblade and intends to run it at 100 power level games. He's also thinking about getting a second for when we play 150 power level. I'm not really that bothered by him using the Stormblade, I would just like some advice on how to play against one. My current list that I have devised but haven't used yet was this: ++ Battalion Detachment +3CP (Imperium - Space Marines) [100 PL, 1887pts] ++ + HQ + Captain [5 PL, 98pts]: Master-crafted boltgun, Relic blade, The Santic Halo Lieutenants [5 PL, 97pts] . Lieutenant: Combi-plasma, Jump Pack, Power sword + Troops + Tactical Squad [9 PL, 187pts] . 7x Space Marine . Space Marine Sergeant: Combi-plasma, Power sword . Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Missile launcher . Space Marine w/Special Weapon: Plasma gun Tactical Squad [9 PL, 187pts] . 7x Space Marine . Space Marine Sergeant: Combi-plasma, Power sword . Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Missile launcher . Space Marine w/Special Weapon: Plasma gun Tactical Squad [5 PL, 109pts] . 3x Space Marine . Space Marine Sergeant: Combi-plasma, Power sword . Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Lascannon + Elites + Relic Sicaran Battle Tank [14 PL, 290pts]: Heavy bolter, Twin accelerator autocannon . Two lascannons: 2x Lascannon Relic Sicaran Venator Tank Destroyer [15 PL, 305pts]: Heavy bolter . Two lascannons: 2x Lascannon Cataphractii Terminator Squad [12 PL, 228pts] . Cataphractii Sergeant: Combi-bolter, Grenade harness, Power sword . Cataphractii Terminator: Combi-bolter, Power fist . Cataphractii Terminator: Combi-bolter, Power fist . Cataphractii Terminator: Chainfist, Combi-bolter . Cataphractii Terminator: Lightning Claw (Pair) Sternguard Veteran Squad [14 PL, 170pts] . Space Marine Veteran: Special issue boltgun . Space Marine Veteran: Special issue boltgun . Space Marine Veteran: Special issue boltgun . Space Marine Veteran: Special issue boltgun . Space Marine Veteran: Special issue boltgun . Space Marine Veteran w/Heavy Weapon: Plasma gun . Space Marine Veteran w/Heavy Weapon: Plasma gun . Veteran Sergeant: Power sword, Special issue boltgun + Dedicated Transport + Rhino [4 PL, 72pts]: Storm bolter Rhino [4 PL, 72pts]: Storm bolter Rhino [4 PL, 72pts]: Storm bolter It's a 30K themed list, hence why I've handicapped myself with 10 man squads in rhinos and not 5 man tacs in razorbacks. The main plan is for the 5 man tac squad to remain on a backfield objective taking potshots with the lascannon, with the other two tactical squads in rhinos advancing up field to take objectives. The Captain rides with the Sternguard in the third rhino to jump out and hold another objective. The Lt deepstrikes with the Cataphractii to kill things. And the Sicarans ride around destroying anything they can. The only thing I have that can do a great deal of damage to the Stormblade is the Sicaran Venator but I'm not sure if this is enough. Coincidentally its the only thing I have not actually bought and painted in this list yet so it can be changed far easier than the other units. I know it's great hard to judge what to do without knowing what the rest of his list will be like but I imagine it will have a few Leman Russes and some Death Korps infantry from what I have gathered. Part of me is thinking about not buying the Venator and finding room for a Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer instead, but that makes me feel like I'm tailoring my list to only defeat his Stormblade and handicaps me against other opponents. My funds are particularly tight and so this list is effectively almost my entire collection, aside from an extra sternguard squad and LR that I also own, but they aren't going to be a great deal of help I believe. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Jay Edited August 24, 2017 by Centurion Jay Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/338598-countering-super-heavies/ Share on other sites
Focslain
Actually a LR isn't a bad choice here. In general you want as many lascannon type weapons as possible. So high str, good rend and multilpe damage. This way your wounding on 3s, he only gets a 6+ save and your doing D6 damage per hit. Those stack up if you just alpha strike it and if you get it to a quarter wounds it's not really doing anything. Once it's in the last wound band you can choose to ignore it or finish it at your leisure. Jagus Kumkani
I agree, I think you're fine with the LC's you have. It wouldn't hurt to add more LC's or even add some meltas for shorter engagement range. But that my Salamander speaking there, I love Meltas so, you can take that with a grain of salt. Just ensure you keep your elements that do have the LC's in a Support position so you can dish out that long range anti-armor fire.
