Yeah, but Bobby G is a heretic, for at the very least consorting with Cawl who uses Ai.

And doesn't the Auxillary Super Heavy detachment just do 1 Super Heavy?

You could run the regular aux detachment, but thats -1 command point, so you are spending 300pts to gain 2 command points, and the ability to not spend them 50% of the time. Which is, admittedly a nice option.

I have to say, I'm kinda surprised by the Strike / RB combo everyone's talking about. I understand why it's run, but I actually tend to Deep Strike my Strikes.

In my experience, any Deep Striking unit gets immediately melted if you don't make it into melee, which you don't 75% of the time. Even a Chaplain with Paladins seems kinda risky. I mean, your saves are good, but you still have only so many wounds and high AP, multi-Wound abounds this edition. If you don't make it into melee, that unit is basically dead. Consequently, I've adopted the idea that my Deep Strike units are going in to die, but they'll do a good job of distracting the enemy in the meantime, and can unleash some hurt to boot. I just played a game tonight against Eldar, and I got a 12 (11+1, no Perils) on my Vortex of Doom test, and did 5 Mortal Wounds to everything around his Wraithknight, killing 3 characters, including Yvraine. Bolter fire took out the remains of the Harlequins that Soul Bursted, and I killed the last in melee. That Strike Squad was 105 points, and killed ~600 points worth of units, including his Warlord who would provide a large number of buffs. That Strike Squad was very very dead the next turn, but they did their job. Then I dropped a second Strike Squad there the on my next turn and did it again, though I didn't get the 12+ that time :laugh.:

I don't know, I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that Strikes are very useful outside of anchoring. They're cheap and deadly units, who can put out a lot of hurt if the enemy tries to bubble wrap or runs a lot of characters, but who also carve through the chaff units with their Storm Bolters and are still strong because of D3 damage in melee. I will admit, I really enjoy throwing a Land Raider across the board with Gate, so I tend to run some death balls in them just because I like it. Be it Paladins with a Chaplain and Paladin Ancient or Purifiers with Crowe, a Brother-Captain, and an Ancient with the Banner of Refining Flame, popping out of a Land Raider and doing 4d6+1 Moral Wounds on a 4+ before Denies or just mulching a unit with Paladins just feels really good... but they need a distraction to get there. We can't bubble wrap like Nids / Guard, all of our distraction Carnifexes are expensive, and we need something to take the heat off of our main force. Strikes fill that role perfectly for me.

I got a bit sidetracked, but Strikes are a fantastic way of generating some CPs, and they're usually pretty useful to boot and far more useful than mere anchors. Are there cheaper ways to fill out a detachment? You bet. Are they teleporting Space Paladins? I didn't think so.

It is a bid odd indeed. There's no difference a Terminator and a Paladin. Or a GM, or a brother captain, or a librarian, for that matter.

I mean if you really can't tell the difference between a character model a terminator and a paladin, then you're doing 40K wrong! :D

The character model GW sells for a brother captain is a regular terminator model (I have it in metal from the original box). The one they sold until recently as "brotherhood champion" was a regular metal strike squad model. They even use the same old picture, with no distinctive patter or marks. So according to GW, they are absolutely identical.

If you want to differentiate them somehow, is up to you. I have all my models well painted, and I don't use the backpack-banner-thingy because it looks stupid, so terminators and paladins look exactly the same. Also why buy twice the models when you can use them for more than one purpose?

You're doing it wrong.

I mean, I believe you. You can't tell the difference. But that just makes me sad for you because you're missing out :sad.:

Seriously though, you can't tell which of these are termies, paladins or a librarian?

As I said, the back standards look supid, so I don't use them. That's the only meaninfun difference between the pictures, and it is just personal preference anyway.

And after what you said, you post the Space marine grey knight wannabe travesty librarian, which is pretty ridiculous. That pìcture is just made to try to scam people into buying the SM librarian to convert him. You can put together a much better looking and fluffier GK librarian with the regular terminator kit. What you posted is a Space marine with grey paint.

Also look at the new codex's brother captain conversion based on a space marine. He's just begging for someone to end his painful and miserable existence. Just because GW ties to trick you into buying unnecessary models does not mean you have to fall for it.

If you take away the back banner (which i agree don't fit my tastes, they are hideous to me).

Personally i use helmet colours to differentiate my units.

As Strikes, Purgators and Purifiers are indenticle. They're even the same box. Same as all of our TDA units.

Paladin have gold helmets. Strikes and Terminators the usual silver / grey.

Adeptus, what makes a Brotherhood Champion any different to a Strike Justicar?

GW use the exact same model for both.

(I also think the tesla coil backpacks are the height of silly as well, so don't use them for interceptors).

According to the fluff purifiers have white helmets and shoulders. Strike and purgators are equals and it is very useful since it is possible to use purgators as heavy weapons strike.

Paladins have different helmets, banners and heraldry shields respect to termy.

Personally I made some changes. For pally I used the front of DWK termy armour and the rear of regular GKTDA (I eliminated the upper part in order to make visible the psychic hood).

Moreover for chappy, libby and apotechary I painted the right shoulders with the appropriate colours (black, blue and white).

I don't have yet a brotherhood champion and a brother captain, but I'm wondering about SM termy cap. I am not persuaded about the one in the GK codex and Maybe the best conversion is using Stern as base model. About champion probably the best way is modifying Crowe.

If you want to use a brotherhood champion, just use Crowe as it is, he looks great and noone should have any problem with that.

For GMs and brother chaptain, etc regular terminator models look great. Just use the loincloth and some purity seals and a cool pose and you can easily make him stand out. I don't use them, but I would just use the old metal terminator justicar (the one they sell now as BC), old metal terminator look so good, and the justicar is even better with his loincloth and all.

After having a few games, I will say that Command Points go extremely fast, and each one is precious. Strategems can be really powerful if employed at the correct moment in a battle.

I keep tilting between different builds, but one I keep coming back to is double Battalion. 3x Grandmaster DK's, Brother-Captain, 6x5 Strikes. I switch around between Paladins, Venerable Dreads, Stormraven etc, but that's the core I like. With 9 Command Points, you can generally afford a few rerolls, a Psychic Onslaught or two, and of course Heed the Prognosticars or 'Only In Death Does Duty End' at a key moment.

Horde lists have it a lot easier than us, they can hit Brigade detachment requirements very cheaply, and still have room to field a lot more stuff. They also are sitting on 12CP at that point, which is enough to enact pretty much all the Strategems you need for the first 2-3 turns.
