Hello

I have decent to finally start Horus heresy after years of saying I would.  For myself, it has always been Death Guard or Salamanders, a constant choice.  Then, on ebay, it happen.  For $100, I bought this army lot:

  • 25 tactical(mark 4)
  • 30 Tactical(Mark 3)
  • 5 Tactical(mark 2)
  • 10 heavy(mark 4) with missile launchers
  • 10 grave wardens
  • 10 Cataphractii Pattern Terminators
  • 2 BAC contemptors(Probably sell)
  • 1 forgeworld death guard contemptor(DCCW and C-beam Cannon)(need a better load-out)
  • 1 converted primus medicae(Deathshroud conversion)
  • 1 praetor/centurion(aka Crysos Morturg)
  • 2 Apoc

So I have a few questions:

I will do salamanders one day, but can not paint them up to the standard I would like.  The death guard test model on the other hand, I am extremely happy with them.  Thoughts and C&C welcome.  Thanks for reading.

Fantastic work, and an excellent deal!

I'd either go with urban bases or space ship/zone mortalis bases. In the background the Death Guard are described as the premier Zone Mortalis Legion, but ZM bases can look a bit strange when you start to add tanks and flyers. Also ZM bases don't really suit the heavily weathered look (weathering powders/oil paints etc) which is so popular with Death Guard armies. Urban bases generally look pretty good on most tables and work well with weathering :tu:

Looking forward to seeing some more :)

That's a fantastic deal you got there!! I'd recommend keeping the dreads for now, there's no reason not to have a nice contemptor dread talon in the early-going! The test Death Guard model looks pretty awesome too, sufficiently gritty for the DG. I think you captured the colors well. Have to say though, wish you had joined the ranks of the loyal sons of Vulkan, but I'm biased

As for basing, I think the trench-style would work really well for DG. It could fit right in if you wanted to put them on Istvaan V! Plus the trench-style could aid the weathering that is so often found with DG armies and you seem to capture well on your model.
