So for my Armies on Parade board this year, I need a Greyfax model fully painted.

I don't have an Inquisition force for her to lead, but I've been told her an guard are a powerful combo.

So here's my question, what are the best synergies and combos for Greyfax or any other inquisitor combined with guard?

WF might have more insight into the usefulness of inquisitors in 8th he consorts with those crowds...

Personally I've at face value I find Inquisitors somewhat lack luster in 8th so far. At least Greyfax lost her area denial buff and he multiplier can be achieved better and cheaper by Commissars and other Guard HQs / Elite options.

Which is a shame she's an awesome model. I suspect when their codex drops they'll get some neat stratagems.

I could be entirely wrong though! Im going off pure speculation and theoryhammer.

Inquisitors have suffered from a reduction somewhat, but the index books taketh away so the codex can giveth... though for the Inquisition GW has been very stingy in recent updates so I'll wait to be convinced. The named characters are a better shout usually, Greyfax is quite handy for some psychic support and defence and her abilities are nice but I wouldn't say she provides anything particularly powerful with the Guard.

Inquisitors aren't going to make your opponent quake in their boots when you put them on the table, but they offer plenty of character and different plays - that's the best way to use them. If you want more details bits on Inquisitors you'd be better off visiting the Agents section.

Inquisitors are, in my experience so far, a tool box offering. Particularly their special characters (the generic ones struggle to be worth it, imo.)

All of them provide a degree of psychic help (yes, even Karamazov, the old git.) Greyfax is especially good here, if you want one character whose dedicated role is shutting down psykers. All of them give leadership bubbles that IG particularly like (it's nifty when you don't need to execute your own men.) Their psychic powers are all supportive and useful if you're planning ahead.

What they don't do well if fight. While they are all fairly well armed (master crafted whatever, special guns, decent armor) they suffer from being human. Coteaz and Karamazov shine over the others as combat characters and will still likely get killed if they bite off too much.

I think inquisitors have a couple problems for Guard right now.

For starters, most IG lists are better served by cheap commanders who can give orders. Greyfax isn't overcosted and comes with good wargear. But, if you want a psyker hunter, the Culexus is far better. If you want a hero character, Celestine is far, far superior.

Secondly, her own psykic ability took a major hit in the Index. She doesn't have her unique powers and Telethesia, as it stands, is not a very good discipline.

It is possible to take a contingent of Inquisitorial troops and their Quarry rule can be quite good depending on meta. But, you'd be better off with a small detachment of Space Marines. They are sturdier, quite killy, and a librarian will do as much or more than an inquisitors.
