Hello cousins from Fenris,

As an experiment, I am looking for help compiling two concept lists:

1. The craziest deathstar/bomb unit you can possibly build using only SW units

2. The craziest "realistic" version of the above unit that one could actually consider taking in a 2000-2500pt list (so the unit itself would probably run to be about ~1000pts on its own).

A lot of people don't like Deathstars and hate the concept. I don't entirely disagree, but I would rather use this thread for academic purposes; exploring how "crazy" a single bomb unit can be rather than the conceptual merits or demerits if said bomb unit.

Thanks!

First thought I have is 5 thss wolf guard terminators with Arjac, Logan, and Njal all in a land raider crusader. Runs about 1k points so it meets your runable criteria (ish). You have 20 thss attacks re rolling to hit and rerolling wounds of 1. Njal can help tank by reducing to hit by one with hus psychic powers (he could be removed if saving points or swap in a wolf priest for the heal, though I have gotten very little mileage from this without the res and the anti psycher protection is nice). No one is taking moral as long as Logan's up and Njal's other psychic powers can be devastating as well. I suspect they eat a unit a turn, 2 if you can multicharge. Plus they are safe early on in the metal box.

The otger perk to this deathstar is they all teleport, so it's conceivable you could drop the land raider and just drop in, getting you down to about 750, which seems quite playable.

Interesting. Arjac seems a like a winner for sure.  Thunderwolf Cav is just not what it used to be?

TWC is still good, it is just that you cannot put a tanky 2+ character at the front anymore to soak up small arms fire and GW have largely eliminated rerolling saves.

They are a good unit, just not as brokenly overpowered. A well tooled-up unit backed up by a WGBL and a Priest on Bike will dish out the hurt while being very durable.

The problem in 7th was that they were so good they kinda invalidated the rest of the Codex. :tongue.:

For a bomb unit you want

Ajac

One terminator group with SS/TH for your CC taken down

One terminator group with  4 x SB/CC weapon and an a/cannon for range shooting

one wolf lord and one battle leader for rerolls

one wolf priest to regen wounds

one or two rune priest to smite and deny witch.

I'm not sure why? My Wulfen have been doing well for themselves.

5 points extra for:

+1 attack

-1 armour save (though against rend of -1 or more this makes no difference)

+1 Strength

+3 Movement

Run and charge

Feel no pain

Attack when killed

Curse of the Wulfen

Seems very worth it to me.

How have you guys been running your wulfen? I like a mix of 2 SS TH, 2 axes and the leader with claws. SS and fnp make them hard to kill and I have found the axes to do a fair chunk of damage. I always run them with a wolf priest for rerolls and they seem to steamroll most units
From an outsiders perspective, (fluff aside) Wulfen seem an incredible force multiplier, not only for their immediate buffs, but for their Distraction Carnifex factor. SW seem to have amazing choices in the sense that beatsticks are also buffers.
Wulfen are certainly great but they need something to buff. Traditionally a deathstar is one unit supported by characters (8th made this a little different with how characters work). I left out wulfen because they are a second unit which is traditionally not death starry. Also some of our best buffs go to wolf guard exclusively (Arjac and Logan) which is why I chose them over wulfen. Now running wulfen with the terminators would be good, you just have to decide the logistics of it.

Hmmm, Wulfen roll up in a Land Raider (whatever variant floats your boat). They disembark when a suitable target presents itself and the Termies teleport in to lend some weight.

That's precisely how I play the 2k list I posted on the SW army list board.

Wulfen, 5 Blood Claws and a Wolf Priest in a Stormwolf. Njal or Arjac with 5 Terminators to teleport in. Add Long Fangs, some Grey Hunters for backfield support and 5 Wolf Guard bikers and that's a tournament ready 1800-1850. Trying it out this weekend against Ultramarine flyer spam.

I currently do not have wulfen and due to them being elite it would mean removing my Shield dread who is Bjorn's body guard the only benefit I see to swapping them would be surrounding Bjorn while he moved up the board.

I find with terminators when deep striking if going against a shooty army is if you fail the charge you are going to be in a world of trouble as you can only move 5ins and all your target has to do is advance away then you just get picked off by his guns.

Don't know if this would be effective or not, but here goes;

Storm wolf 1

Logan on foot

Arjac

Njal in power armor

Ulrik

5 wulfen

Storm wolf 2

6 PAWG

5 TDA

5-6 Wolf scouts set up in reserve

This uses a vanguard and a supreme command (or whatever the HQ formation is) for a total of 5CP.

This list gives rerolls, extra attacks, healing and psyker shenanigans. I have toyed around with different weapon load outs and it comes in at around 2000 points. When you deploy you have 3 units that you place so you'll probably get done first.

What do we think of this?
