Does anyone ever paint their orks as a colour other than green, a la the variety of skin tones seen in Lord of the Rings' orks? Or play with ethnicity in their orks (beyond just clan colours)? I just wonder, would this add more to ork armies?

love green orks, but I wondered, could there be more difference? Or does that dilute something?

Fungi can come in a full rainbow spectrum of colors, so there would be nothing wrong with various colored orks just going by the fact that they are fungi (unless you go with the idea that orks are some kind of specifically green variety fungus). I would think, though, that a full army would only be one coloration, with individual groups within the army showing minor variations. A brown with blue accents in the skin, or an orange with bright yellow, or even a red cap head/face on a pale green/cream would all be great appearances, however, you'd definitely need to coordinate your armor colorations with these appearances.

For my grots, all the basic ones are green as if they're freshly grown. The older and more elite ones are grey skinned. It fits pretty well with the scrap metal look of my vehicles and walkers. Since I've developed a sort of weird fluff around ork fungus that stops at the gretchin stage, the grots have a bit longer to age and show variation.

I remembered seeing some pale orks that looks good so I decided to search for Albino Orks and got this guy: https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjRq5q0nIHWAhWEVhQKHUmJCdYQjRwIBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.coolminiornot.com%2F244951&psig=AFQjCNEb6P1yvBoSy0GD6KMttBOqMP9NkQ&ust=1504260225682381

I think he looks pretty cool.

Personally, I just paint my greenskins that colour. The Gretchin get fairly pale skin, the Boyz get a mid green, the bigger, tougher Orks get darker skin and my older and more cunnin' looking Big Mek got a bit of grey mixed in to make him look more aged.

It didn't occur to me to paint Orks another colour but there are some spectacular examples of imaginative skin tones out there.

That is a beautiful colour!

Some great ideas in the thread - I have some old ork models from when i was a kid, and I wondered about taking them a different direction, for a shadow war-esque grouping. Maybe then I can have different colours of Orks, and I love the idea of brighter being younger/fresher!
