Converting to Sternguard?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to convert a fully assembled Mk III Space Marine into a Sternguard veteran? Currently the only thing I can think of is throwing a scope/optic onto the bolter. Any other ideas?

Clip off some stormbolter (from the terminator set) ammo mags and glue them to the ammo spot on a normal bolter. BAM! Sternguard.

The primary distinction from a WYSIWYG perspective is making sure the bolter doesn't look like a normal one. 

If you're willing to go 3rd party, places like Anvil Industry sell all sorts of weapon accessories, including box and drum magazines, which can help differentiate the bolter. Would certainly save you hacking up Storm Bolters.

When it comes to making the marine more 'veteran', you have all the usual options: more bling, different scheme (stripe on the helmet or helmet an entirely different colour to normal is common).

Just checked out Anvil Industry's stuff. I will definitely by throwing some of those thermal scopes onto their bolters now. Maybe the silencers too.
