Muckwarrior
Hi, I'm new to the forum and relatively new to 40k tabletop. Question: Do Deathwatch units have any special deep striking ability? And/Or How does deep striking work for Kill Teams? Thanks! Eleison Company
Units of Vanguard Veterans and Terminators can "deep strike" (or the 8th Edition equivalent) - setting up over 9 inches away from the enemy at the end of your Movement phase (I think this counts as moving for purposes of shooting; i.e. to hit modifiers). Mixed Kill Teams (i.e. veterans + terminators + VV) don't get that ability; you'd need to use a drop pod for that. Have you picked up the Index with the Deathwatch datasheet entries? Goes through it in there against all the units - as it stands. Toomanyprojects
Deathwatch used to have a universal deepstrike ability back in 7th, but as mentioned above the only way to get this in 8th is to buy drop pods. A point that is also worth making here is that the deathwatch codex isnt out yet. Maybe there will be a return of something like this then, but as things stand the Imperium index limits deep strike to pure vanguard vets, termies and anything using a drop pod Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339282-deathwatch-special-rules-questions/#findComment-4883919 Share on other sites
Muckwarrior
Got it thanks. Would I be right in assuming that Primaris Inceptors and Reivers can also deep strike? And how about Dreadnoughts? Can I use tokens to represent drop pods and just pay the cost or are players hard core about having a physical drop pod on the table? So far, I've played in the Konor campaign at my local GW store and no one even questioned my deep striking mixed Kill Teams (I didn't even know or think about it). Moostick
Reivers and Inceptors can because they have the rules to do so. Dreadnoughts and Intercessors do not so they can't. Using stand-ins depends entirely on who you're playing with. Most casual games will be fine with it; official matches (i.e., tournaments) definitely not. As for Kill Teams, even in 7th, you only got universal deep strike if you used a certain formation. In 8th, mixed KTs cannot deepstrike ever, even with a drop pod because drop pods cannot take anything other than Infantry (so no Terms, VV or bikes).
