So inspired by the Pound Music thread in AA and the Death Guard music thread in the DG subforum, I thought it would be worth starting a topic for us to discuss music that fits our favourite traitors. So basically, post any and all music that gives you a chaos vibe, be it something you listen whilst you paint or reminds you of a particular legion/character etc. Or just talk about what kind of music you think the legions of Chaos would create and march to. Discuss, share and have fun!

I'll start us off.

Firstly (and yes I apologize for not shutting up about this game) there's this wonderful tune, "Birth of a Wish" from the NieR: Automata soundtrack. It sounds extremely ominous, with deep chanting in N:A's "Chaotic" language, but instead of the usual pipe organs and choirs you might expect from this kind of song it instead features plenty of percussion, string instruments and even (extremely well-implemented) synth drums, giving it a futuristic yet archaic feel, perfect for the dark future of the 41st (42nd?) millennium. The chanting itself isn't the usual low and slow gregorian chanting, but rather quite fast-tempo'd, anxiety inducing and melodic. It could fit any number of Chaos factions, especially Word Bearers, and I've adopted it as something of an unofficial "battle theme" for my Legion of Vice.

It's also very fitting for the forces of Chaos given that the most notable occasions it plays are the birth of a machine-hybrid abomination and the mass murder-suicide of a fanatical death cult.

Secondly, there's Rei III from the Neon Genesis Evangelion soundtrack. This one, whilst less suited to combat, is nonetheless  very fitting for the horrors of Chaos. It strikes me as something that would fit a daemonic possession or some other "horrific reveal" very well (perhaps appropriate given Rei's nature in the series, which I shan't spoil).

Finally there's more or less anything by Skinny Puppy, which must be some of the most Warp-y music I've ever heard. I'd love to show you but it won't embed in the post for some reason. Sorry!

Debauchery is always a save choice for people who like metal even tho most of their songs are Khorne themed. :tongue.: (yes I do think Debauchery is worlds better than Bolt Thrower, get out! :tongue.: )

And this one for the Slaaneshi among us.

EDIT: weird, the last link doesn't get interpreted by the forum. Welp then you have to click it, I guess.^^

I firmly believe that GW took inspiration of some classic metal bands and specific metal genres for the chaos legions.

Slaanesh / Emperor Children:

Nurgle / Death Guard:

Night Lords:

Khorne / World Eaters:

Blood of the Kings is officially my Horus Heresy/Chaos song since the old Cadia campaign when a friend of mine made alternate lyrics as

"Brothers, the battle is raging, choose your side"

"'Til the blood on your sword is the blood of Marines"

"For Gods of Chaos, four Chaos Kings"

"Death to the false one"

and so on^^

Black Legion have an official theme song:

Though the 'Burn Main Kill' refrain makes it a better fit for World Eaters, IMO.

Apart from that, there are tons of great songs for the Black Legion.  I've got a bunch put together in no particular order in a youtube playlist. My favorite at the moment is probably A.B. Original's '2 Black 2 Strong', though that's probably a bit too explicit to embed here.

But while there's a tone of good songs for the Black Legion, it frustrates me that I'll probably never find a theme song for my legion as perfect as 'Playing with the Big Boys' from the Prince of Egypt sound track is for Thousand Sons:

Try this one :

You want something while painting your favorite legion ?

If they are pink full inhuman voice and melancholia of the once proud warriors they were : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf7uHcEPiDI&t=72s

If they are red and angry : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HHsrfwrAa8

If it's metallic grey and a little too close of the Dark Mechanicum : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGrea3c8YEg&index=15&list=LLw3cnU3HyqNutweCTaveMcg

If it's night blue with a thing terrorizing loyal dudes of the Imperium : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdoCFxsB5Vg&list=FLw3cnU3HyqNutweCTaveMcg&index=53

Nah,  The affected gruff yelly voice kind of metal isn't, imo, an especially good fit for Thousand Sons.  Certainly less so than the more casually smarmy/sinister original performance for that song.  Their hatred is a bit more controlled and calculated than that.  Don't get me wrong, that sort of thing is a good fit for most Chaos Legions (there's a reason why there are /two/ Dethklok songs in my Black Legion playlist, in addition to the HMKids bit), but not, again just imo, for Sons.  And if you're not talking specifically about the Sons, then all the sorcerous & egyptian themes of 'Playing With the Big Boys' no longer fit.

It's not a bad cover, mind.  I just don't think it's going to top the original track for the purposes of this thread.
