bkde
Hi all, few questions regarding use of AoFs. 1) When using the AoF to move, is it possible to advance as well? Similarly, if a unit uses this AoF to move, do they count as moving for the purposes of shooting in your following shooting phase? i.e. If I AoF a unit of Rets to move at the beginning of my turn, keep them still in my movement phase, then shoot with them, do they suffer the -1 to hit? 2) When using Celestine's ability to grant a bonus AoF, does that AoF still require a roll of 2+? Or does it succeed automatically? Thanks in advance, if possible please provide references in your response. Cheers! A.T.
Celestines is automatic. The heavy weapons penalty is explicitly based on your movement phase and doesn't case what you do with faith, however as worded you would appear to block yourself out of shooting or assaulting if you used your faith to advance. Ahh, I see. Because the AoF is worded that "at the start of your turn" and the rules for advancing are listed as "a unit that advances can't shoot or charge later that turn", both rules reference the entire turn, not just the phase. Thanks! And whew, Celestine is nasty! Thanks again for clearing this up. Cheers! A.T.
And whew, Celestine is nasty! Thanks again for clearing this up. Cheers! My impression on Celestine is that during playtesting they likely found that she couldn't keep up with her own bodyguard (seraphim) unit with the single faith point per army per turn, so had to give her a faith point of her own. dracpanzer
I think her AoF was more likely to allow her to operate outside of a Sisters army. She can keep up with seraphim just fine without an AoF, if you were only getting one you probably wouldn't use it on the Seraphim to move them ahead of her anyways. Though it seems her getting an auto faith point when taken solo in other Imperial armies is likely what is causing all the uproar about nerfing her in some way. I think she would be fine if she only gave her auto AoF when she was with a Sisters detachment, not the HQ detachment she is usually taken in as an ally. She would still have had the 1/army faith point as an allied unit. Getting one of her own just means that tournament players are bringing a small unit of seraphim or retributors along with her to take advantage of the spare point. 12" is a lot of ground to make up without it. Even slower units like repentia have to be careful not to drop their mistress, and imagifiers can quickly get left out in the cold for the same reason.
