GinjaTurtle
Brand new to B&C so first time poster. After watching and enjoying 40k for over a year. 8th edition finally got me to take the leap. Started off with the DG half of DI, FS and snagging a Morty soon. But with all my knowledge being in principal not practice, the newness of the codex and models that aren't even out yet. I'd love to hear more experienced opinions on tactics to use our demon primarch with the boxed sets. Which models one should look at next. Or even if a Demon Prince would be more effective in 1500 point games. Thanks in advance for all the help! Mack
You need to get a DP in your list. They are just good and equip him with the Relic armor. In a 1500 point game, I would take a DP over Morty. GinjaTurtle
Would a FAQ removing the ability to takes wings effect your suggestion? To expand upon the discussion. The shop I play at is pretty laid back. So I've been using the LoC as a proxy Typhus until the new model is available. With a DP and Tyhpus filling out the two HQ slots for a battalion. Is there still a tactical use for the Malignant Plaguecaster? GinjaTurtle
The Suppurating Plate is the relic in mention. It gives him a 2+ save and bounces mortal wounds back on a 4+ for every successful save. Barring a future FAQ it's available to a Nurgle DP. Guest
ah i see. rather confusing because sometimes FW has different rules for the same model names. So I was thinking maybe it was a FW thing. thanks for clarifying. Lord Marshal
Honestly depends on if you want to build around Morty or not. He's a contrast to the rest of the Legion, wherein he's fast (flying) and wants to get into the enemy's face. Meanwhile, the majority of the range involves slowly slogging up the field, taking hits without much of a fuss, before laying down fire. He really changes up the dynamic of the 'typical' Death Guard army because you don't want him to be found alone, surrounded by the entire enemy army, and being turned into a pin cushion without support. He's tough, but not that tough. He could also work well as a DISTRACTION CARNIFEX (albeit an expensive one) that allows your slower elements to move up and pour on the hurt whilst they try and deal with him... though, it's risky. Morty works well with Drones because they're similarly quick like him, so the enemy has to split their attention between him and them or else one or the other is going to rip them apart without opposition. You'll already have one with x2 Supersoakers and a Plague Probe, so you'll be wanting to grab at least another one. The Fleshmower is great for dealing with hordes (and in general), whilst the Heavy Blightlauncher will be good if you're lacking for anti-armour elsewhere in your list. Only issue is they're not out yet.. although it shouldn't be more than maybe a month until we can get our hands on them. Daemon Princes are great, as has been mentioned, and will work especially well if they keep their wings. Even without them, they'll still be excellent pieces but at least the wings will let him, again, move up quicker in support of his Primarch. Since Morty doesn't count as a HQ you might as well take one to fill that slot, plus your Malignant Plaguecaster from DI. Blightlords seem to be shaping up to be great. They're tough (of course), aren't nearly as expensive as Deathshroud, have excellent ranged and melee capabilities and their Deep Strike means they can get their guns/bodies into range in support of Mortarion quicker than foot-slogging Plague Marines. They're looking like a great addition regardless of how you run your Death Guard. The verdict is still out on Deathshroud. If they get a wound buff in a FAQ I imagine people will be more receptive to them but their ability to take hits for the already tough Mortarion (not to mention they have better armour saves) makes them a potentially great addition to the 'ram down the enemy's throat' style. Only issue is they're slow as all hell and thus slow Morty down quite a bit to keep up that buff (plus doubling the cost of Morty) so we'll have to see how well they actually work when people have some games in with them. But at least they're nice and fluffy. With DI and FS you'll have... 10 Plague Marines? Although one too many of them is a Champion. My advice would be to grab the one Plague Marine box when it comes out and double up on the Blight Launcher and Plasma Gun you already have. The general consensus is to x2 Blight Launcher on everything, but if the Terminator box is any indication we'll only get one of each special weapon, so it's not really practical from a real-world money perspective imo. GinjaTurtle
Thanks for the wonderful write up. I think after hearing both points and considering my small model range. I'll go with the DP and save Morty for after I've expanded to options that better compliment him. While we're on the subject though. May I ask why Blight Launchers seem to be so popular? My inexperienced gut would imagine triple plasma with the reroll one aura for S8 -3 D2 would be my go to anti armor. Perhaps there's math with the plague weapon rule and D3 damage I haven't seen that edges it out for T7/8.
