sunspear
I'm going to start working on an AM regiment ( I made up my own). I'm probably going to use the genestealer hybrid models as a base. I want them to be from a hive world, probably nomads that live outside the hive. I have read a little bit on the different doctrines and watched a few battle reports. I know the AM are a shooty army, but I would like to have an army that isn't only sitting still and shooting. Maybe even have a little melee punch to them, I suppose ogryns can fill that spot. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on what doctrine they feel would best suit that play style? HenricusTyranicus
Tallarn! Hyper mobility. You can come in from all sides, surrounding them, blast them with everything. If you want any melee, the ability to pick what targets you go for is crucial with weak str like the guard. Guardsman Bob
Catchans would fulfill all your face punching needs. Burning the enemy would just be the icing. I’m thinking of trying out Steel Legion. With six core squads (no heavy weapons in them) that added range for rapid fire has a lot of potential with an order for ranked fire and positioning. My goal isn’t generally to get the charge. It’s more to reach an object or just shoot to death. Tirak
I'm going to start working on an AM regiment ( I made up my own). I'm probably going to use the genestealer hybrid models as a base. So there's a few good armies for a more mobile style of play, according to the info we have right now on the new Codex. Tallarn vehicles receive no penalty for moving and shooting, so their chimeras and Sentinels are the best, as they can put out a lot of hurt and keep skirting the edge of enemy range. Their doctrines focus on ambush and outflanking. If you're looking to focus on a vehicle style army, Tallarn are the way to go. Steel Legion offer some interesting choices for mobile infantry. They have an order that lets them shoot then mount up in a vehicle, and their vehicles ignore AP-1, which is a boon against some armies, but not so much on others. The thing that make Steel Legion kind of crazy is their 18in rapid fire range. They still are limited to 24in max range on their lasguns, but that extra 6in of play allows you to kite slower melee armies, as if they're normal infantry, they have to walk up 6in, then get a 12in charge if they want to get at you. And then all you do is keep stepping back 6in, and rapidfiring the crap out of them. Catachan's are Strength 4. That's space marine strength. Allow me to say that again. In melee, a 3pt Catachan Conscript will wound a Space Marine on a 4+. That's a pretty big deal, and when you start slotting in regular infantry and officers with weapons like Power Axes, you've got a surprisingly choppy army. Is it going to beat a close combat oriented army? hell no, but a Space Marine gunline better give you space, otherwise they're going to get a nasty surprise.
