I just picked up the codex today, after reading though this I am not sure how I should kit out my infantry squads. I plan on having 6 with chimeras, I think chimeras.

A couple of questions, if you vets can help I would appreciate it.

1. Should I give my squad leaders a boltgun or a lasgun instead of a pistol?

2. Which would be better as a transport, a chimera or a Taurox?

3. As far as special weapons go, should I give them tony squads or just use them in SW teams?

4. How important are vox casters now?

Thanks again

1. Sadly a las gun isn't an option, I'd probably go bolt gun for effectiveness.

2. I don't have my codex with me at the moment but if the steel legion 18" rapid fire lasguns works with chimera ports, I'd say definitely chimera. Even without though to maximize your abilities you might want to go chimera anyway, your bonus rapid fire range can help make up for speed and survivability helps your infantry get back to cover.

3. This depends on their role. Generally if you've got 3 meltas in a squad and all you want to do is run them close to something and blast it away, and then have the troops die after to enemy fire, go small special weapon squads. You'll be able to fit more in chimeras and won't lose as many men when the inevitably die. However weapons like plasma guns and grenade launchers typically fare better in bigger squads to diversify and add to the fire power.

4. I really like vox casters personally. That way you can have two teams inside chimera with a company commander roaring around within 18" of each other and still both get orders, but some people hate centralizing orders like that.

1. Can only give them a bolter. Good buy IMO

2. Chimera is more fluffy and they look better. But tauroxs are better for transporting a single squad, chimeras become better with characters attached

3. I have them in infantry squads. SWS are decent. But I use the 90a metal cadians and don't have the models to try it. YET!

4. not a fan of voxs. Would rather have more officers

Vox casters can be useful. You can park your commander with warlord trait or relic to allow more orders next to a command Squad with a vox and mortar, and hand out orders while being completely out of line of sight. A nice perk for Warlords.

I've also contemplated with Scions to run a command Squad with 3x hotshot volley guns and a vox caster, and drop them with a Tempestor in cover somewhere behind the plasma scion teams. Should make them a little harder to dislodge, especially if you can hide the Tempestor.

You have no idea how much our lack of Sergeants with Lasguns frustrates me.

"Congratulations trooper Jones, for you still with a las-gun we are promoting you to sergeant, so give us your las-gun now."

It does not, unfortunately.  The Steel Legion rapid fire ability only applies to their infantry, while the lasgun arrays are the vehicle's weapons that just needs a unit embarked to fire them.  This means that their range doesn't get extended, and also that the arrays always use the BS of the chimera and never that of the passengers.  On the plus side, you can fire both arrays even if you only have a single model embarked.
