Just Another Guard Player
Hi there, I'm almost done with my Fire Lords army and my DKoK and was thinking of Thousand Sons for my next project but I have very little knowledge of what to invest in or how Chaos play let alone Thousand Sons. May main thinking is I would like to move from the large massed army of my guard to a super small, high power, high elite army to get the best bang for my buck and want lots of magic to try something new. At the moment I'm mostly thinking sorcerers and Scarab Terminators but could do with a view pointers about what a Thousand Sons army should look like. I mostly just play 7th with my mate at home but an army that will mostly work in 7th or 8th would be nice. Cheers in Advance. Khannis
Due to the massive changes to the psychic phase, our army plays VERY differently in 7th edition. The core is still the same, but you must consider formations and discipline selections carefully. While formations can be restrictive, our awesome disciplines allow a lot of different strategies. I didn't play that much in 7th with them, but I'd recommend the Scarab Occult formation with the improved saves. No matter what we do, we're always an elite army with a low model count, unless you go with Tzaangor horde spam, but I personally hate it (both fluff and gameplay reasons). sneakybamsen
I think it's a matter of preference, but I'd get some rubrics and a unit of scarab occult. Sprinkle with Ahriman and a winged demon prince plus a box of exalted sorcerors. For 7th they should be rather decent afair. Later on you can add Magnus if you want to (he's a beast, especially in 7th). Just because I like them, I'd get a spawn or two, and then add a forgefiend or predator, just because. Most of this is for casual games, I don't have the 7th edition books with me, and don't remember formations, so I cannot advice on those. But if you get what I've mentioned, you'll be able to have decent casual games in 8th at least, as far as I can figure. It's something like the above I'm going for myself.
