The Final Sanction - OOC thread

Im going to have to politely bow out of this. Work is becoming increasingly busy and I barely have time to post in Mols thread.

Good luck doing the Emperor's work, brothers.

Safe journeys then, brother. But the Emperor's work is never done, so looking forward to your return!

And if that is what the Emperor's Work requires, I could roll up an Apothecary. Any suggestions ?

All official chapters are fairly strong with it, Blood Angels can get an advanced rank one template by being a sanguinary priest (page 43, First Founding book), but when in doubt, the book "Rights of Battle" let you build your own chapter. Red Scorpions on the other hand have a character past that has your marine being one back in his home chapter....

For the specialty that you've got to pick at character creation for the Apothecary, they are all really strong, so you don't have to put a lot of forethought into where you want to go long term, though I will say this, Guardian of Purity combined with the chapter trapping from the Red Scoripion's chapter can be amusing... As going by what is written, so long as you can pass a challenging will power test when you gain corruption points you could reduce it by up to 3 points... As Guardian of Purity reduces by 2 to a minimum of 1, and the chapter trapping says it reduces corruption points gained by one (note, it does not say to a minimum of 1 by the way) with a will power test...

And lastly, tactical marines are a bit of a joke at the start of an adventure, but with the right choices can be a very useful jack-of-all-trades.

Commander with tactical expertise or a sniper kill marine are their two strongest traits IMO. I quite like Dark Angels for both - sustained suppression as commander or excessively large accurate weapons (weapon charm) as kill marine.

And they get to rock into battle with a combat shield at rank 1, not bad at all.

To be fair, I'm pulling a background deed from Rights of Battle for the Should, it also cost me nearly half my starting so to get it. What I meant about being a bit of a joke is that unlike an Apothecary or Devy the Tactical takes more early planning to make strong through game mechanics.

If there's any room for a Black Shield Tactical Marine, I'd love to join in.

(My own Deathwatch army is packed full of Black Shields, and is led by one, in fact.)

I don't mind doubling up on tactical marines, but it is not up to me... as it stands we've got a Libby, Assault, Dev and tac.. we could use a confirmed Apothecary and Tech-marine.

Deathwatch experience as follows:

My reasons for taking the black are my own, but know this - my honour remains intact. I may have had to discard some more forthright approaches in combat after years in exile, but do not mistake this for a lack of conviction or courage. I have never broken faith with the Imperium, nor its tenets.

As you are well aware, I have spent several years here at Watch Fortress Erioch. I have, repeatedly and consistently, acted as an adviser and second-in-command to a number of Watch Sergeants, and have subsequently achieved that rank myself. I do not intend to detail any particular actions - boasting achieves nothing.

Dos - eagerly awaiting your input as always.

Although you're using an official Deathwatch adventure, are you planning to use a more generic setting than the Jericho Reach? It would provide you with more flexibility later on.

I was hoping to go similar, so maybe Apothecary would be better.

I was thinking that Black Shield Tacticals are really good, because they pick their two Squad Mode abilities, and being a Tactical, could share them with the squad.

Apothecary, maybe taking the Forging the Bond talent could work too.

Actually, Apothecary fits his backstory very  well, now that I think about it.

It's a shame there is no "Iron Father" specialisation as it would blend the Techmarine / Apothecary thing nicely with my liking of IH.

Currently looking for something that adds to the team beyond "click any noob to heal " so was conspiring Raven Guard, Blood Angels or ! Emperor help me, Salamanders. The Red Scorpion idea is nice, but if I should go the zealous/ puritan way, would rather go BT. In unrelated news, the voices want me put in a Raptor Apothecary who is really an AL operative but I am late for my counseling with the Chaplain.

And if anyone else would like to a take on an Apothecary, it's fine by me. Like I said, I'll fill in as needed.

Xin: If you would like to be added to the selection list to take part in the scenario, you should post something up in the story thread and your character info here quickly. You can change the specifics later, I would just like to get to know your "in-story" writing and what kind of character you'd like to go for.

Mol: I know I'm taking my time with this but I'm convinced it will be worth the wait. Also, yes, I am coming up with my own sector so we will not be bound to Jericho Reach.

If you asked the GM nicely, playing a Techmarine, then taking Chaplain (normally not allowed) might work for an Iron Father.

Otherwise, Master of the Forge works - there are examples in the RPG's fluff of Iron Fathers becoming Master of the Forge in the Deathwatch. Using Distinctions later could help.

Due to the structure and chapter cult of the Iron Hands I'd totally support being able to go Chaplin from Tech Marine, provided the GM is on board with it.

Well, I was thinking I'd wait to on a decision regarding the Speciality and go on from there to create my entry. Of course, I'd could churn in some Deathwatch story If you are looking for a story first approach and are ok to switch things around later on.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry, for the delay. Work had me busy this last few days. Gave me some time to bounce around a couple of ideas, though. With the Apothecary covered, I went into Techmarine. Looking for a way to put a bit of a different spin on the Techpriest in Power Armour thing, I realized along the way that Techmarine are also pilots now. So I came up with a thing that is more Technoninja \ Hacker-Rigger and settled on RG for now . I kept the details a bit vaquero, so I can change things around if needed :
