So i am on the fence here. Im thinking if i really must take Cawl then I need to have a small Mars detachment ot represent Cawl showing up on another FW. The one oI am very attracted to is Stygies. I want to build my admech to be shooty with a counter punch ability.

What is your preference for FW and why?

As sweet as Stygies is, depending on how effective you want to be in melee, it may not be the one for you. They are purely shooty, with the limit on Clandestine Infiltration meaning it's usually used to get snipers into a good position at the start of the game or to get an alpha strike with some EPriests.

My advice for what you're looking for would be Ryza or Lucius. Ryza units can reroll wound rolls of 1's when fighting. The issue a lot of people will point out is that our best melee hitters (Dragoons excluded) are still slow, but if you're doing a counter assault, chances are the enemy is already upon you.

Lucius is able to deepstrike/teleport guys in, meaning you can wait for the battle to unfold and then get the guys where they'll be most influential, instead of forcing your opponent to show his hand first, like with Stygies.

Final Thoughts:

AdMech is a ridiculously shooty army, but unlike Guard with dozens of lasguns and artillery barrages, we're an army of specialists. Wonderful shooty specialists. This also means that to the untrained eye we're not adaptable, but with canticles and now Stratagems we are very lethal. To make the most of our melee units you'll need to plan just about every action and canticle and Stratagem. 'Tis the bane of specialists, but when you get good, oh boy is it good.

Do you play tournaments?...

i don't so iv'e done a Forge world Coalition army(fluff reason is mounting a huge combination of forge worlds joining together to counter the chaos threat coming from Cadia way) My main force is Mars (for Cawl of course) and then i'm in the process of painting up ranger/Vanguard and onager units in my most wanted forgeworld colours...

i.e. i have 3 Onagers and they'll be in Mars,Metallica and Ryza etc..

My playing group don't mind me doing that, plus i can differentiate units really quickly on the tabletop   i have to let them know before the game what forge world i'm choosing so they have a fair idea of what they're facing, no suprise dogma's :tongue.: they let me choose different forgeworlds when we play so they can get used to fighting all of em...

i get bored easily when i paint stuff so this is a good way to stay enthused and i don't stop half way through an army and say "Gee i wish i'd done Metallica instead of Agripinaa :ohmy.: "

i just paint an Agripinaa unit next :tongue.:

cheers, Mithril
