So speaking to my buddy and he played a game against and alpha legion player who did the above:

Not sure how alpha legion work, I assume this is a combination of legion traits and attached vigilator to a 20man tac squad.  Infiltrate within 18'' of opponent, scout 6''  so now just 12'' away.... and then fury of the legion...

is this legit?

Actually no, this isn’t a valid tactic.

When the game starts, you will be able to Infiltrate your units, but they must be at least 18” away from any enemy units. Realistically, you can’t start them exactly 18” away and then Scout them exactly within 12”. Not to mention the fact that a multitude of models in the unit that will be further back than that.

If you can manage to Infiltrate a 20-man unit into a position that is completely out of line-of-sight, then they can start 12” away from the enemy. But they cannot Scout any closer than 12” anyway, so that won’t work either.

Sounds like he played against one of those other types of Alpha Legionnaires. I would never resort to such underhanded tactics.

False information, you can get to 12" with infiltrate if the enemy doesn't see you, it becomes 18" if any enemy models have a line of sight to you.

Thus, if you by some miracle can find a spot where you get the entire squad hidden, and its 12" away, you can scout them closer and then rapidfire your fury of the legion at the enemy.
