Snakes of Ithaka
So with the release of 8th i decided to spread my wings and start another army, having only collected Space marines for the past 5 years thought it was about time for a fresh start. after looking at the upcoming codex's the astra militarum caught my eye especially with the images the community site put out with the different regiments of guard, so i had hoped that we might see some new models come out with the codex sadly that was not to be and they where kitbashes. So i started to have a look around and see what other companies made stuff that fitted in with the vision that i had for the army, which is a hybrid of British WW1/2 so something along the lines of death korps of krieg. below is the first two test models for the project. i'm using the British WW2 colour scheme think it works well and am happy with how the units have come out i plan to use them for all the troops in my army while using the GW vehicles with conversions done to them to fit in with the general theme of the army. have 3 more test models to paint up then ill post some pictures of them all together until then comments and criticisms are welcome Major_Gilbear, WarriorFish and walter h 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340405-a-fresh-start-with-guard/ Share on other sites

WarriorFish
They come together nicely, good colours fit the theme now you only need a muddy basing scheme and you're away :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340405-a-fresh-start-with-guard/#findComment-4909372 Share on other sites
Snakes of Ithaka
cheers for the comments Awesome is that the anvil Trench regiment range? Looks good! yeah i mixed and matched some bits from the whole range until i came up with a look i was happy with. They come together nicely, good colours fit the theme now you only need a muddy basing scheme and you're away yeah still thinking on how i'm going to do the bases, if i go for the straight forward approach and make it pure mud or if i attempt to make them trench like. so I've painted up the first five test models and i'm pretty happy with the results so far, bases still need a lot of work but its getting there, also i had a quick go at making a company commander really just to see how well the GW and Anvil bits went together, answer pretty well I've gone ahead and ordered a couple more squads and a heavy weapons team from anvil industry's, so hopefully they will arrive soon and can get to start on them, I've also picked up the start collecting box, not sure what ill use the Cadain troops from the set as yet thinking something along the lines of having them as veterans with maybe a head swap and given back packs, possible do something with their weapons too think that i need to make a mock up and see how it looks. the other two things that i am working on currently is a chimera conversion and the Leman Russ from the start collecting box. Hopefully I'll get some more pics up later today WarriorFish and Reyner 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340405-a-fresh-start-with-guard/#findComment-4923219 Share on other sites
Snakes of Ithaka
so got slightly side tracked and started some work on a few conversions Started off with the chimera, was never really a fan of the look of the kit so set about trying to make it a little different after look at a few images i decided on moving the turret to the center. Pretty happy with how its coming along needs just the weathering and decals added to finish it off. secondly i decided to pick up the ork jet with the intention of de orking it and using it as a counts as thunderbolt. luckily the kit comes with loads of options and was able to find plenty of bits that suited the more imperial look i was going for, i also went in an cut off any bits on the fuselage that looked orky then went back in a filed them down, the main area for this was around the nose. The inspiration for the fighter was the English electric lighting, to have it fit in with the rest of the armies theme of WW2 British I've gone for RAF colours. really happy with how its come out so far, still lots to do as have only put down the basic colours so far and still need to prime up the missiles for the wing. all in all the army is really starting to come along, now just need to get my head focused and try to finish painting all the models on my desk. Bjorn Firewalker
I like your Guardsmen and your fighter, but why use the Leman Russ chassis for the Chimera? Did the new rules delete side-mounted lasguns? Do passengers still embark and debark through a rear hatch?
