Hello all.  I've decided to get my hands dirty with the Admech, and I've been thinking a lot about Kataphron Destroyers.  Both Heavy Grac-Cannons and Plasma Culverins seem pretty awesome, and I honestly don't know which one to give my Destroyers.  From your experience, which is the better pick?

Play Ryza Forgeworld for their plasma boost stratagem and take the plasma culverins. 1CP more than doubles your damage output against multiwound targets. Make sure you have some kastelans and use the Elimination Volley stratagem so you can safely overcharge plasma giving 3D6 shots, hitting on 3s, +1 to wound (so probably 2s) and causing 3 damage each.

Nice. It just costs 3CP to do.

I've yet to play a game with them, but I have seen that grav cannon kats are still pretty good at putting down GEQs and MEQs, though they aren't the OP they were in 7th.

One caveat though...with their 4+ save they are still surprisingly fragile. Keep em in some cover, and maybe keep a babysitter Magos nearby to buff their accuracy.

I prefer not taking them personally. They're pricey, poor BS, but I still bring them in once in a while. Plasma is probably a hair better... ? Horde type armies laugh at Grav. I just played Orks with mine armed with Grav... ugh. Plasma is at least got the option to overcharge. I really prefer to not take them though.

Yeah both variants feel quite average in 8th. 4+ base to hit is bad on Breachers because of their low shot output (1-2), plasma culverins on Destroyers are a bit too random and even with 6 shots you'll only hit 3 without buffs, grav is okay but again low dakka in practise.

The Elimination Volley is nice, but it's feels kinda wasteful to have to spend 2CP a turn just to get the unit to function. The Kastellans aren't as affected by 4's to hit, because they're firing 18 shots each a turn with Protector protocol active.

Also the Kastelans are reasonably punchy in melee, even without Power Fists.  Destroyers are toast if they get charged, and Breachers are only slightly better off.  This is without even considering the incredible durability of Kastelans and their Ability to double-tap or double-melee (though you do have to invest in Datasmiths to most effectively unlock this).

I want Destroyers to be good I really do.

In a Mars detachment with Cawl near by and some Kastellan Robot friends using the plus one to hit strategy they are far from bad if a little easy to kill.

The issue is the points cost. Way to high for what they bring.

Shame really as J love the models and will still bring them in fun games.
