Depends of the style of army. I plan to run mine with 2 heavy flamers, which benefit greatly from the Catachan doctrine. It holds room for 2 special weapon squads, or a vet squad and some characters, options that the Taurox doesn't offer.

On the Taurox: it may be good (and it's very cheap) but I just really disllike the model in comparison to the good old chimera. So my decision to take Chimera's instead is partly based on a very unrational argument.

my 7th edition force i built for our local summer escalation league last year has 2 vet squads riding around in chimeras. one unit is Lascannon/3 sniper rifles and the other is a 3 meltagun squad. they were nice fire soakers for the grey knights i was facing :) I have since rejiggered the force under the new codex and plan on slapping the Tallarn regiment framework is it was a mobile reaction pdf force I was trying to emulate.

Also, didnt have to buy much in the way of models to field the army as I had a whack of unpainted fiures at the time. So no tauroxses :P

I do, though I use them as Tallarn. So far, theyve not done well, but eh. Not going to change to an all-infantry army, thatd be waaaay too expensive... (I use steel legion models...)

I have the Chimeras and the infantry. And they are steel legion. I play for fun so steel legion get Chimeras. I've only played two games with the new rules. Unfortunately most of mine are and Ways have been kitted with multi lasers and heavy bolter. I do have a few heavy bolter heavy bolter ones though. They can work well. I wish I had a few with flamers though. I think they would work well. I don't proxy so I don't know how well they will do. I also say this if you overwhelm your enemy with Chimeras they work awesome. They can't kill them fast enough.

i used to run 3. but converting one into a devil dog and sold the other. the one i have left is for spec wep teams with plasma goodness :P. though been toying with the idea of running 4 melta in a command squad and 1 unit of spec plasma and a company commander. but id keep em cheep dual HB and just use em as transports. dont expect them to do anything amazing.

Ive got five painted up and use them regularly. I did them for a 7th ed vets detachment. Pre the codex, and specfically the tallarn doctrine i was not sold on them. They never did damage, though they did survive as a low priority. I played the other day using the two, one with vet squad, commissar lord and primaris and the other with a command squad, captain and primaris. Both survived the battle and did some damage so a big improvement .

However i have just bought three taurox to try them out as i think they are supeior in game terms, if not look. I like them both. A vet squad or infantry squad are good for taurox, but the chimera has an advantage in stuffing multiple small squads in or bullgryns with characters due to the twelve capacity.

Considering how many missions count each killed unit as a Victory Point I’m reconsidering doing a straight up Armored Company over the current massed Infantry army.

I thought most were based of PL? If not that's definitely a house rule to help balance it out

I use 4 in my Armageddon list. Mix loadout of Multilas and HFlamer/HBolter.

Typically transporting an Infantry Squad w Flamer and a character or two (Co/Pltn Commander, Priest). Its a mech infantry list so usually have all squads mounted.

These are my front wave units, blitzing with Hellhounds/Banewolves, Scout Sentinels. Couple squads of Scions dropping in as support. Russes and artillery tanks giving support fire.

I use 4 in my current list. Three with infantry squads and one with two command squads with plasma and an officer. The rest of my list is 3 mortars, another officer, 4 LRs inc a command tank, collossi and medusas. So over all it has the potential to be a fairly mobile list although the arty tanks dont move unless they have to.  I use my chimeras with twin heavy flamers and use the Catachan doctrine. They do really well in my opinion on getting guys to the objectives.

I use 2-3 with varying frequency when I field my Engineers, at least until FW gets their act together and lets them take Hades drills as transports.  I got Yarrick + Marshal + Priest + Primaris/Astropath filling out the remaining 4 slots.  One of my Chimeras is the double flamer variant, the other two have magnetized hulls and turrets.  I am partial to the Gryphonne pattern using the Tallarn doctrine for the latter two.  The double flamer variants run well as Catachans, but it's a lot less likely I'll be running a Catachan detachment.  It's pretty awesome that you can buy transports for anything, so I can bring a Tallarn Vanguard of Leman Russ tanks and a few Chimeras for my Krieg to borrow.

That’s a good point. I think even GW is still trying to get a feel on how to integrate this Power Level stuff.

Edit: In the narrative missions there is at least one that uses PL since unit values are the only form of victory points.
