StrummersGhost
Hey guys, just looking for some inspiration or advice for an 800 points vanilla marines list. Having a wee tourney with a few mates, needing a list for it which can't be altered between games so I need to make it as well rounded as possible. Can anyone suggest any must includes? Or have experience playing at such a restricted points value? I'll be going up against Orks, Death Guard, Imperial Guard, Tzeentch Deamons and Necrons. Roderikum
Hello brothers! I made a list thinking about your post. Hope It may help you a little. ++ Patrol Detachment (Imperium - Space Marines) [46 PL, 797pts] ++ + No Force Org Slot + **Chapter Selection**: Crimson Fists + HQ + Captain [5 PL, 89pts]: Master-crafted boltgun, Power fist, The Fist of Vengeance + Troops + Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 105pts]: Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, Bolt rifle . 4x Intercessor . Intercessor Sergeant: Power sword Intercessor Squad [10 PL, 125pts]: Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, Bolt rifle . 5x Intercessor . Intercessor Sergeant: Power sword + Elites + Terminator Squad [12 PL, 211pts]: Teleport Homer . Terminator: Power fist, Storm bolter . Terminator: Power fist, Storm bolter . Terminator: Power fist, Storm bolter . Terminator Sergeant: Power sword, Storm bolter . Terminator w/Heavy Weapon: Assault cannon, Power fist Venerable Dreadnought [8 PL, 165pts]: Missile launcher, Twin lascannon + Fast Attack + Assault Squad [6 PL, 102pts]: Jump Pack . 2x Space Marine . Space Marine Sergeant: Bolt pistol, Power maul . Space Marine w/Special Weapon: Flamer . Space Marine w/Special Weapon: Flamer ++ Total: [46 PL, 797pts] ++ I allways use a list of this kind with a Hammer and Anvil strategy. The Anvil evolves around the captain and his buff. Terminators and the Assault Squad are kept in reserves. That way you may use then as Hammer or as a reinforcement of your Anvil. Use terminators also to hunt enemy psyquers, artillery, HQ... In this games so short of points they actually shine even more! Hope I've been usefull... StrummersGhost
You've given me some food for thought! Hadn't reckoned on terminators so I may try to throw them into a test list, thanks! StrummersGhost
Hey brother Tell me what units you like and I'll craft you something ! :D Hello brother! That would be much appreciated! :D Units that I like... Intercessors redemptor dreadnought, (in fact any dreadnought!) Librarians Predators Razorbacks Scouts Inceptors Devastator centurions I own quite a number of units now, and the list above is just a wee selection of units I either like how they play or just how they look haha. Any help you could give me would be grand! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340668-800-points-vanilla-marines/#findComment-4916913 Share on other sites
GreyCrow
Hey! Try the following : Lieutenant with Power Sword 3 x 5 Intercessors with the standard Bolt Rifle 2 Redemptor Dreads with Macro Plasma, Stormbolters and Onslaught Gatling Its a bit under 800 points, but it's designed to provide you some decent shooting up far, and tactically advancing up the board. You basically want to diminish any Rapid Fire volume before they get in 12" thanks to the Primaris and the Dread's Stormbolters/Gatling that are operational since 24". Use the Dreads' Plasma and Icarus to shoot down any critical threats first. Overcharge only if they need to die very early. Lieutenant provides rerolls to wound. Functionally they work a tad less than Captains on Strength 4 (better for higher strength weapons), but iirc they also buff the dreads' high shooty weapons as well as synergize with the Wisdom of the Ancient Stratagems which turns the Dreads into Captains for a turn. In terms of Chapter Tactics, if you're looking to optimize the hell out of this lists : - Imperial Fists for Cover Ignoring synergizing well with the AP - Raven Guard for -1 to Hit to help with early game survivability (with a lot of frowny looks from your opponent) - Iron Hands for 6+ FNP accross the board for a more long term survivability Other working Tactics : - Ultramarines for a defensive Counter Assault perk, where you fall back and shoot your guns with the reroll on Intercessors stratagem Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340668-800-points-vanilla-marines/#findComment-4917651 Share on other sites

Looks like an interesting list! My concern would be AT, however I'm guessing the redemptor could be played aggressively and get into CC... GreyCrow
2d6 Macro Plasma Overcharged at S9 AP-4 and D2 + Icarus should be good enough to proritize the key tanks, with the fist as a side upgrade ;) Your goal will be to get infantry superiorirty early on by obliterating the enemy. StrummersGhost
Okay brothers, so I have been thinking about all your suggestions and have taken inspiration and tips from you all. Greycrow, I won't be able to get my hands on 2 redemptor dreads in time for this little tournament so can't go with the list you suggested but I've made 2 possibilities. If anyone can critique them I would appreciate it! GreyCrow
Either could work ! Basically, you are using vehicles as a source of durable ish firepower. Would remove the Razor for an extra Intercessor squad though. Bump into an auto cannon happy opponent and you'll be having a bad day ! StrummersGhost
Just an update for all that kindly helped me out list building. So we had the tourney. We scaled it down due to time constraints and decided to draw two groups of 3,with everyone playing the other 2 in their group. Anyone who won both would go through to a final. The games were on a 4 by 4 table with 3 objectives worth 3 points. And other VPs being first blood, linebreaker etc. I drew the Death Guard and the Imperial Guard. I went with the predator list and took a 3rd squad of intercessors instead of a razorback. My first game was against the IG, and it was a tough fight. He took a punisher leman russ command tank, a hell hound, a manticore, a squad of scions and a couple squads of guardsmen and a couple commanders. I was able to utilise cover and not get pasted off the board in the first turns but I lost my predator and my infantry were ultimately pulped by the sheer volume of shots he was getting. The dread kept going and I was able to get some decent shooting in against his guardsmen bit ultimately lost out. My mistake was not pushing the redemptor up to punch his leman russ. Next up was the death guard, who I hadn't played before. He took a predator a rhino, 2 squads of marines, a unit of poxwalkers and a couple other things I can't quite remember. This one was closer than the first battle however I lost my predator in a duel with his early on after some terrible dice rolls on my part. I pushed on and was able to take out his poxwalkers before they could multiply and take his rhino and slow down a unit of close combat marines it carried. We fought on but he pipped me by a couple of points and I went out. All in all it was an enjoyable list. The dread performed well enough however I could have used him better. Also glad I went for the extra squad of intercessors so thanks for that Greycrow!
