SyNidus
So a thought occurred to me as i was considering my army lists and i realised that i didn't leave much in my builds or battle plans for objective capturing. Instead, i rely mainly on having objectives near to where i want to go, but this is not always the case. The ideal objective grabber currently is the Eldar jetbike. They have the extreme speed and mobility to go just about anywhere on the board and they have the flexibility to lend a good number of shots as well. By contrast we're much slower, and our bikes don't have mobility. So the question is: What do you guys use for objective grabbing? It should be something cheap, fairly mobile & fast. Of course, i'm open to ideas. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/ Share on other sites

Cordova
Scouts to begin with. Then either deepstriking units or things jumping from stormravens. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/#findComment-4914931 Share on other sites
duz_
Bikers and ASMs I haven't played maelstrom much this edition yet. Last edition it was certainly consideration. If you play ITC I notice its not so much of a factor compared to the BRB missions. GreyCrow
Everything should grab objectives ! :P No, seriously, all units should be used to secure objectives in a place where they are efficient. Ultimately, you want board control. If you are looking for a fast objective grabber, assault marines are good for that, and a good distraction versus the tactical squads too! MajorNese
For backfield ones, the Tarantulas are epic. In cover, they can take quite a bit of fire, and they are extremely cheap. They just die in CC, but 3 platforms take quite a while. TFC + Lazorback are a resilient combo too, adding ranged firepower while self-repairing, and maybe containing flamer tacs as counter-charge/speedbump. Long-term addition will be devastators, with enough bodies to stick around in cover, some lascannons for vehicle hunting, and a heavy bolter for that hellfire stratagem. 1CP, 2+ to hit, D3 mortal wounds might come in handy when needing to strip that last wound off some important target. For the further away ones, deep striking Reivers are king. Deploy there (preferrably in cover), lend some fire in 24", and survive at least small arms for twice as long as regular marines. I do have assault marines, but a geared up squad is almost as expensive as the same number of Reivers, while dying a lot faster. Might try scout bikers, but they're quite far down the to-do list. MajorNese
@Major ; How do you kit your assault marines that they become so expensive ? Plasma pistols. Those work well, but shrink the points difference between 16p jump pack assault marines and 20p grav chute reivers. 9x19 Parabellum
Scouts' concealed deployment is good, but I also have a Land Speeder Storm that I use sometimes to get 5 cheap scouts where they need to go. 22" (with advance) is pretty tasty. Shadow Captain Vyper
Cheapest: Bolter Scouts Fastest: Scout Bikes or ASMs Hybrid: Reivers (with Bolt Carbines) I have been using Bolter Scouts for the longest time (and min squad ASMs with 2x Flamer), and I really want to try our Reivers or Scout Bikes. The idea of Reivers in cover with Bolt Carbines for 110 points with that 2+ and -1 to hit seems very solid (with 2 wounds each). duz_
Personally I'll be playing mine with the grapnel hooks. We can burn a CP for StfS which gives similar utility although not as flexible (ie they have to deploy before T1) and the hooks give extra movement in high terrain environments. Although for the 10pts more you could have both! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/#findComment-4915646 Share on other sites
MajorNese
The hooks require certain terrain to be useful, and deployment is limited. I'd prefer the flexibility of dropping those guys anywhere, at any time, especially when capturing objectives. Yes, you could take both, but IMO the hooks don't add enough value when already using the gravs. To each their own I guess... duz_
I usually play with a lot of vertical terrain, so there is definitely a benefit for me Especially when its 3 stories high! :D Means you can start putting objectives up very high just to annoy your opponent ;) Remember the >12" for our CT to kick in is base to base so if you're already up 9" chances are their LOS will either be obscured by the building or they'll be outside of 12" if they can see them :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/#findComment-4915689 Share on other sites
SyNidus
The more you guys talk about it the more i want to try Reivers. My local scene has quite abit of vertical terrain and these would work well i think. On top of that, there's utility in them because i can still use them to help out with the initial assault via SftS. duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/#findComment-4915852 Share on other sites
duz_
Exactly! :D Tbh if its just 5 its only 20pts of upgrades, but if its 10 of them gets a bit more expensive Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/#findComment-4915872 Share on other sites
SyNidus
Actually i just realised that a good way to use reivers when putting them in SftS with another squad (in my case a 8 man hammer/shield vanguard squad) is to also advance them when you move. Then you can get them in range for the -1ld debuff and still fire your bolt carbines. duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/#findComment-4915877 Share on other sites

Just goes to show how little I have been paying attention to Primaris pricing structure. The fact that reivers have the same stat line, better weapon options, better rules, and cost LESS than an Intercessor is just mind boggling. I guess GW must think that the battlefield role plays a part in the pricing (I personally feel that Troops by comparison should cost less to incentivize taking them). That fact alone I think is going to get me to pick up 2 squads of 5. duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340673-objectives-and-you/#findComment-4916196 Share on other sites
duz_
Yes it's really odd that they're cheaper for the same stat line and better abilities... Only thing you miss out on is the 30" AP-1 Bolter... which eh...
