I recently ran 10 with 2 Blight Launchers, 2 Flails and 6 combi-plasmas with a mix of cc weapons. A bit pricey, but they absolutely deleted whatever they shot/assaulted.

The issue I have with them is that I would rather just get Deathshroud Bodyguards if I was going melee, and if not just take more plague marines for shooting.

 

I think they will fit a mixed assault/shooting list okay but those lists are rarely competitive. So I wouldn't mind using them in narrative games or games for fun but for competitive play there are better options. This is not to say they are not good. There are just better units that have better rules.

I used two units of 5 with plague spewer, flail and 3 axe/1 sword and they did about what I expected them to.

 

When they get that lucky deep strike charge they're amazing. Otherwise they're a useful roadblock.

I am building a unit with 4 combi plasma and a flail. I look forward to seeing how they perform. Not happy with the fiscal cost, but whatever. If the box had come with 2x of each combi weapon option GW would have done more right in my eyes.

That combi-plasma bit looks like the easiest thing to make greenstuff molds for or just swap out for a pistol or gun bit from another kit.
