Hello guys

Simple one really today.

I love the nids, I think they are a fantastic faction and have great models. The only issues being I love them as adversaries and not to actually collect myself. This comes from the whole mindless swarm thing, I prefer forces with a little personality.

I know this can be countered with the genestealer  cults but again this kinda falls short for me as their isn't really any progression with them? is that fair to say? Yeah they can manipulate and take over a world/ system but the end result is just the same, just some nom for the hive mind.

So to cut a long story short have any of you guys created a miniature or fluff around a particular tyranid creature that has anonymity? Like a 'queen' or 'king'

I've been toying around with the idea for a conversion that would be fairly humanoid in design but just use as a count as tyrant.

Some sort of queen bee maybe, like the zerg woman from starcraft (never played btw).

What do you think?

One of my carnifexes crash landed through some ice and was deep frozen for millenia. Some explorators/rogue traders trying to make a cheap buck discovered him and exhumed him from his icy tomb. Little did they know, his hyper metabolism was just dormant, and soon kicked into action as the ice thawed. he went on a rampage on their star cruiser, seemingly mortal wounds were regenerated and the beast was unstoppable, killing everything in sight until the rogue trader overcharged his plasma pistol and shot him in the face, burning out one of his eyes out.

Thinking the beast dead, they jettissoned him into space...but his wounds began to heal.

Please don't sue me GW...

But seriously, GW has many 'archetype'/legendary beasts, Old One Eye, The Red Terror, The Swarmlord, Parasite of Mortrex, the Doom of Malantai, the named ones from deathstorm.

Dwez's Hive Fleet Gorgon log is full of character, give it a read!

Although it's true you can play Tyranids as a 'mindless swarm' it's also true that they can be particularly characterful and with personality. From what I've seen of the new Codex with the expansion of some of the smaller Hive Fleets we're seeing very different goals, one in particular has built a huge continent sized psychic structure of unknown purpose. It's like when the Necron Codex was redone last time and the mindless undead robots suddenly had expanded emotions, feelings and quite a sad backstory.

You can literally create your own reason to be and for those that think they're mindless, lets not forget the Swarmlord outsmarted Marneus Calgar, they're xeno-formers - absorbing and creating all biomass on a planet [building as well as devouring]. And big thanks to Xenith for sharing my own small efforts in fleshing out what was left of Hive Fleet Gorgon following their escape from the Tau.
