MajorNese
As I've scratchbuilt barricades with the length of an ADL, question is, is it useful for RG? 75p gets you two freely positionable pieces of cover, limited to infantry within 1". Considering the lengh of the line, maybe 7-8 marines on 32mm base can be in the zone of one half, maybe a few more depending on placing. As a result, it would be useful for less-than-full squads, like sniper scouts, devastators, stalker intercessors, which get quite a nice boost by combining +1 armour and -1 to hit on that range. Nice for fluffy Raptors ambush forces, who don't intend to go in with jump pack and lightning claws. My take is that it wouldn't be useful for a total of 2-3 backfield camper squads (those usually find terrain cover for free), but would increase camping capacity when going for an infantry-centered gunline. Also is nice for deploying cover around objectives, which would otherwise be (intentionally in case of short-ranged opponents) out in the open. Downside, it's ground floor, which doesn't protect from getting charged by vehicles/monsters/bikes. Also, there's the question of a gun emplacement. While dirt cheap (25-30p if I read it correctly), they hit flyers on 4+ (not bad) and non-flyers on 6s (really bad). Also, pretty easy to kill, a sure way of giving away first blood, but maybe distracting from more pricey targets. So...what's your opinion on that, or better, any experiences with it? Claws and Effect
Seems like it could be useful with the right lists. I wouldn't take one with a highly mobile assault heavy list, but if you're doing a gunline list anyway you might as well have some cover that you can put wherever you want. Wouldn't bother with the gun emplacement though. Devastator squads hit flyers on 4s too, and don't have the penalty to hit ground targets. Race Bannon
Maybe not for every game or as an all-comer's, but sure :tu: GreyCrow 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340999-aegis-defense-line-useful-for-rg/#findComment-4923446 Share on other sites
GreyCrow
It's a very good support unit for what it does in specific lists! If you are building for a gunline, it's a very decent force multiplier to hide your shooty units when your board edge is not particularly strong in cover. It's a contingency investment basically. You know that you will have to damage the enemy, you know that you will have to control the board. You don't know whether you will need it, but you will welcome it when the time comes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/340999-aegis-defense-line-useful-for-rg/#findComment-4924039 Share on other sites
duz_
Hrmm I generally play tables that have a reasonable amount of terrain. So I rarely even run my Mordian themed aegis for my guard. I do like the look of them lined up behind it. Im not sure from a thematic perspective how I feel about RG sitting behind a defence line vs carefully positioned in ruins. I guess if it was a last stand / hold the line scenario it would be kinda neat. From a number PoV, certainly after to the durability of your units (make sense that's point right??). I still like the idea of boys before toys. 75pts is another scout squad with camo cloaks, a 5 man tac squad, a rhino or captain, ancient or apothecary.
