jbaeza94
Hey guys, I'm looking into getting the new tyranid box for sure. My question though is, should I just buy the tyranid army set, or should I get both the 2016 and 2017 tyranid start collecting sets with a box of temi/hormigaunts each? Money wise, it's a better deal, 30 £ more for a unit of warriors and a swarm lord. But would this be an alright starter list? Would 2 boxes of hormigaunts be better than 2 termigaunts? What would I be lacking in? I'm terribly unfamiliar with tyranids but I've been wanting them for a while, now seems like a good time to dive in. Thanks Oh, and also I like the idea of a swarm list as opposed to a bunch of giant monsters. Not going for super competitive, just fun games. Xenith
The Tyranid army set offers no saving over buying the things separately. 100% get the 2016 start collecting set as you'll want a flyrant or swarmlord at some point. Gargoyles are also good. The 2017 SC box is also ok, despite the overpriced broodlord cutting into the savings. At this point you can go big or small by buying either 2 boxes of Gants, or one big gribbly. jbaeza94 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341038-start-collecting-vs-tyranid-set/#findComment-4924180 Share on other sites
Captain_Krash
Does the Tyrant come with wings in the 2016 starter? I thought it didn't? Xenith
It's a standard hive tyrant kit. The wings are part of the sprue Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341038-start-collecting-vs-tyranid-set/#findComment-4928637 Share on other sites
Dont-Be-Haten
I have 3 hive tyrants. Worth the investments. I love my gargoyles also. Fantastic chafe that caps objectives early and late (if they survive) So I concur with Xenith. jbaeza94
Thanks everyone! Ultimately I went with both start collecting boxes, 2 boxes of termagaunts, 2 boxes of hermagants, and a tervigon. So many minis. I want to build a list kinda around a tervigon and termagaunts (never ending termagaunts!!!). I don't know where to go from here, but it's a good starting point for now. Bukimimaru
That will be a great start, There is something so satisfying about seeing Tervigons pumping out extra units of gaunts. Lol. jbaeza94 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341038-start-collecting-vs-tyranid-set/#findComment-4930865 Share on other sites
