Yesterday I tested the list for upcoming 1250 pts tournament. It was the third time. I played earlier against Primaris list with Stormraven twice. Twice I've got the first turn and destroyed the SR, so the opponent could do nothing. Was pretty easy and I learned nothing.

This time I faced my archenemy - Repulsor under Azrael. His list was like:

Azrael

Ezekiel with Aversion and Mindworm

Primaris Lt.

3x5 Incessors with Bolt Rifles

Redemptor with Plasma Cannon (forgot the exact name)

Repulsor armed to the teeth

Mine:

Voldus - vortex, purge, aim

GMNDK - Sword, psycannon, incinerator, teleporter, fttf, sanctuary

3x strikes - different weapons, but no hammers or staves, 3x psilencers, all gate

Apothecary with hammer, cuirass, HH

Lasmelta Raven

I used tournament rule pack with known CA rules. Deployment was Search and destroy, missions were Scouring and Deadlock. Field had a large LoSblock building in the middle with flat top, a ruin on one side and a large house on the opposing side, small stuff all over the field. Three objectives were on the House side along the short edge, one in the center, one in the ruin, and two others are near the wide edges in the middle. I was the one choosing deployment side and took the quarter on the side with most objectives. He deploys near the centre, setting Repulsor and Redemptor around Azrael and 2 other HQ's as well as one Primaris squad. 2 other squads are in redemptor. I depoy Raven out of his LoS behind the house ruin and doing what I thought was impossible - Stormraven had Cover! House was tall enough to hide half of it and had a small yard that we considered a part of ruin. I just set SR's base in the yard (it didn't help me, though). 2 strikes and apothecary are in SR, everything else is in reserve. We roll off and I have the first turn, but he steals initiative.

Turn 1

Deathblow

DA

He moves everything in single formation, but SR is out of range for everything but TL Lascannon on Repulsor. He hits, but wounds only once, an I've got 6 for a save. That's all.

GK

I completely forgot about no scoring for flyers. My opponent did too. So I move Raven to score an objective on the other side of the short table edge. Before that a strike squad disembarks and hide in a house to ensure no wipe out (it was highly unlikely though). GMNDK drops in a small ruind near the house but thats enough to give him cover. I want to force my opponent to split shooting from repulsor, so I cast Sanctuary on Raven. Raven shoots Repulsor from lascannons and stormstrikes - everything else is out of range, but with no result. GMNDK is too far too give re-rolls (my mistake).

Turn 2

Never lose hope!

DA

The formation moves back to get closer to GMNDK and Stormraven. Opponent decides not to split shooting and everything from repulsor goes to GMNDK. I fail a lot of 2+ and 4++ and lose both the Warlord and First Blood. GMNDK removed without doing anything at all.

GK

My morale is broken, but I continue the fight. I realised that I could not hide from repulsor anymore because he controls center. Stormraven moves to the Formation - near Redemptor and Primaris squad. Another strike squad deepstikes in the large Ruin near opponents edge for an objective, but not in his deployment zone. Voldus drops behind SR to give him rerolls and to throw some spells.  Strikes squad gates form the House to a ruin where GMNDK had fallen to score another objective. I regret not giving Voldus another Sanctuary. I Purge primaris squad for no damage. I cast Vortex and roll 11+1=12. Redemptor is in 3'' from nearest Primaris model. I roll for Primaris - 3 mortals, for Redemptor - 2 mortals. I love you, Vortex :\ . Smite finishes off wounded primaris. Raven shoots Redemptor with all AV - some 2's to hit, some 1's rerolled for 2's, some 1 and 2's to wound, and not a single (!)  4++ failed. The only one he failed was successfully rerolled for CP. Hurricanes goes for Primaris. I didn't use Psybolt hoping 24 s4 shots would be enough to finish the squad. As a result only 6 wounds scored, 5 wounds saved. Yes, I only done 1 wound. Voldus shoots primaris - no damage. One guy form the strike squad in ruin is in range to shoot Redemptor. He did nothing, as expected.

Turn 3

Showdown

DA

2 other Primaris squads moves from Repulsor. 3-man squad climbs LoSblock building. Ezekiel casts smite, but I deny it. He casts Aversion on the Raven, I think about using last 4 CP (Deadlock mission rules) I had for Aegis, but decided to save them for rerolls. I fail to deny. Redemptor shoot Raven from overcharged plasma - only 2 shots, reroll for CP, 4 shots. Redemptor with rerolls looses 2 wounds because of Overheat and fails to do any damage. Everything shoots Raven. leaving it with 4 wounds. At least it survived.

GK

Apothecary and Strike squad disembarks form Raven. I declare Raven will be in hover. It moves a bit towards formation. Voldus comes closer to disembarked primaris. I move strikes in Ruins closer to shoot from Psilencer. Squad near house tries to gate for an objective but fails to cast (it actually hepled me, because I noticed at the end ot my turn, that they needed to guard objective they were on, not to secure).  Voldus casts Vortex and damages closest Primaris squad and Redemptor again. Purge is denied, smite wound another Primaris guy. Raven shoots redemptor again with all his AV. Suprisingly, half of shooting is successful. And everything saved with 4++. Again. I was almost enraged. Hurricanes shoot primaris Squad that is away from Voldus. This time two guys went down. Strikes shoot the same squad and with help of Psilencer only Sarge is left. Another squad shoots guys on roof of LoSblock and kills one. The squad in the Ruin does nothing to Redemptor. Raven charges Primaris and entangles Redemptor too, denying his overwatch. Apothecary and Strikes charge Redemptor. Volus charge Primaris. Primaris Lt. intervents. Apothecary rolls poorly, but deals at least some damage to redemptor. Strikes (sword for Justicar, Psilencer and 3 falchions) deals some more dagame, leaving Redemptor with 6 wounds. Voldus kills all Primaris. Redemptor strikes back - everything at Apothecary, but scores only 1 wounds which is saved by 5++. In morale phase a single Primaris Sarge runs away (rolls 5, rerolls 6).

Turn 4

Clash of Giants

DA

Repulsor does not have good targets for shooting so moves to get 2 strikes squads in ruins. Not all of its weapons are in range though. Ezekiel moves to help Redemptor. Azrael approaches Voldus. Ezekiel casts smite for 1 damage on Apothecary, but FnP saves the wound. Aversion denied. 2 Incessors on the roof shoot Voldus, stripping off 1 wound. Repulsor kills 2 stikes in ruin near house and 3 strikes in Large Ruin.

Azrael charges Voldus, all hits, 4 wounds (one mortal for 6), I fail 2 invulns. He rolls for damage and... 1 and 3. Voldus lives with 1 wound left.

Ezekiel charged Apothecary. Lt. and Redemptor deal no damage, but Ezekiel stips off 2 wounds. Strikes does nothing to Redemptor as well as Apothecary. But I split attacks and killed Lt. No more annoying to-wound rerolls.

GK

Situation is dangerous, but I feel the tide slowly turns. Apothecary fully heals himself. Raven falls back. Stikes near house fail to gate again. Voldus smites Azrael, Purge does nothing again. I know, that casting Vortex successfully will kill Voldus and chances to kill Azrael were scarce (12+ for cast, roll 5 for mortals). Fighting obviously was better idea. I cast Astral Aim on Raven. Apothecary casts Hammerhand on himself, strikes tries to smite Redemptor, but Ezekiel denies. Raven fails to hit Redemprtor, but kills another Incessor on roof.

So, the decisive battle begins. I activate Voldus, 5 hits, 5 wounds, 2 first invulns failed! Azrael is finished. Without 4++ Redemptor is easily finished. Strikes squad piles in and kills Ezekiel. Opponents is left with only 2 models. But it is still to early to celebrate victory. I have a full Repulsor yet to face...

Turn 5

Repulsor Strikes Back

DA

Repulsor splits his shooting and kills Raven with lascannon and lastalon. All other guns shoot strike squad near apothecary. I am suprisingly good at throwing 4+ and loose only 3 men. Repulsor without full rerolls instantly became much less scarier.

GK

Apothecary fully healed again. Voldus hides behind LoSblock and finish the last Primaris with mind bullets (finally Purge did something!). Apothecary casts HH on himself, Strike squad smites and... perils. Only one guy lost though.

I charge repulsor with Apothecary, no damage on overwatch. I roll poorly though but still deal 6 damage. Justicar charges too, but does nothing. Repulsor hits back Justicar and kills him.

We roll for continue and it is.

Turn 6

Apothecary's Final Stand

DA

Repulsor falls back and prepares to shoot apothecary. He splits his shooting hoping to damage strikes near house too. I firmly stand, rolling 2+ and 3+. But it is lascannon time! He rolls for TL las and Lastallon together. 4 hits, 4 wounds, I save one with 5++. He rolls for damage - 9 wounds total. I need to roll 5 out of 9 FnPs for Apothecary to survive. And I do this. Striktly 5 out of 9. Apothecary survives with single wound left. Repulsor desperatly charges apothecary and does nothing.

GK

I finally gate Stikes squad back in the house to hold 4 VP objective. Voldus come out of LoS to throw some spells again. Apothecary restores 1 wound. Another strikes squad left in Ruin to hold objective. Voldus and apothecary smite Repulsor. Purge does nothing again. In figh phase Apothecary scores only 2 wounds, but that is enough. No saves made. Repulsor suffers 6 wounds and collapses. Major victory for Scions of Titan!

My thoughts so far

I tried to keep distance and split forces to make Dark Angels to split them too. It was a mistake. I underestimated repulsros guns range. Form the center it could reach almost everything. I should've concentrated all forces near redemptor, try to charge it turn 1 and hide in close combat from repulsor. Raven is dead thing in such games anyway but GMNDK, Voldus and Apothecary have chances. Strikes do not attract attention anyway. Azrael and Ezekiel couldn't kill everything in CC by themselves. After Azrael is killed, it is a game, almost always. I shoud have use Vortex more aggresively too. It is very powerful against parking-type lists. I think, GK must use as much CP as early as possible to make most damage to enemies and try to cripple them as fast as possible. With some luck, these lists are manageble.  I am disappointed that first turn rules from CA replace ones that are in rule book. Goind first is some compensation for elite armies that always helps me a lot. I would change that the way you roll off and not just adding +1 if you finished deploying first but add +1 for every deploy choice opponent set after you finished deployment. Small elite armies would still benefit from it.

I still see nothing that I've could make better in my list besides changing Incinerator on GMNDK for Psilencer (which I do not have) and giving falchions to all strikes.

P.S.: Apothecary with Cuirass is a beast. The game just made me sure that this is the best relic in our codex.

Nice Batrep!

Think of the Replusor as a mini-Landraider. Always remember the Talon is only 24" though. And one thing about midway through your game, your opponent takes the Repulsor out of CC which is fine as it has fly, but it could not have re-assaulted you in the same turn.

Voldus is actually my favorite HQ. I think I'd always give him Gate to be safe. It looks like you did a lot right, and he relied heavily on Primaris empowered with re-rolls. You're right though with these aura's you gotta hit hard with Vortex (that's a motto I live by).

Unfortunate about the Raven dying so quick though.

On the Primaris: I'm shocked he over charged the Macroplasma exterminator Redemptor... it's such a horrible weapon. Tell your friend to play test it with the HOG... it's a much better weapon for the points. The Redemptor can just about be totally ignored once you get it down to 6 wounds. It is -1 to hit when it moves, plus one level on the damage chart means it's hitting on 5's with most weapons, and 6's with the Icarus... ugh.)

Without Helblasters, I think you're in a good spot vs most Primaris armies. The Aura is most reachable through Vortex as you say. It sounds like you did great despite both sides have some wonky luck throughout. :)
