Bloody Legionnaire
What appearance did the XIV have during the Siege and battle of Terra? Had they already changed their armor to the current Death Guard green? Would there have been some portions of the legion that hadn't become plague marines yet? Marshal Loss
They were all Plague Marines, as the Legion gathered all of its forces into one place and did the jump to Terra simultaneously. Bloody Legionnaire
Cool, thanks for the feedback. All green plague marines or is that a change that took place post heresy? DuskRaider
The green color is more to identify them as Nurgle Marines than anything else... there was a time when god-specific Marines were very few so most had to use the generic (albeit still quite characterful) minis back in Rogue Trader / 2nd Edition, so each Cult-Marine was painted with their God's color. The idea just kinda stuck so you now have red Khorne Berzerkers, green Plague Marines, purple Noise Marines, and blue Rubricae. Kinda lame (and the fluff they come up with too boot). Kinda lame (and the fluff they come up with too boot). To each their own, I suppose, but I really dig the iconic sickly green look. White reminds me of stormtroopers, not servants of the Plague God. As far as in-universe explanation, the unpainted armor of the Death Guard moldered into their 40k colors. I am not sure if this was supposed to have happened 'overnight' in warp as the Destroyer Hive attacked, or over the passing years following the Siege of Terra. Not sure it matters. Marshal Loss
Art from the Collected Visions book(s) shows the DG to be green at Terra, but iconography/colour schemes in that book are unreliable at best. Do whatever you like more. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341391-siege-of-terra-death-guard-appearance/#findComment-4932795 Share on other sites

I mean, nothing is really stopping you from doing them how you like. Hell, there's Death Guard in the codex that wear black and AREN'T Black Legion. I've seen people do yellow and purple as well... whatever boats your float. Lucerne
The armor would have been warp-tainted and sickly, but still technically the same Heresy color scheme- as filtered through the closest thing to daemonic possession short of literally that. Charlo
Probably hard to say as the DG and their falling to Nurgle & Journey to Terra are yet to be covered by BL/ FW and I think we'll see some interesting changes in that regard beyond the current "well Nurgle just overpowered Mortarion while he was in the warp." The black armoured plague marines are actually the original plastic plague marine scheme from 2nd ed while the earlier metal ones first ed ones were green. The off-white pre-heresy scheme was a 3rd edition retcon.
