My plan for the next year is to convert my IG army to using Solar Auxilia models from FW...yes, I know this is expensive but I'm willing to make the sacrifice for two reason. First, I'm painting two armies at once now (yay!) Secondly, I really, really, like the minis. Honestly, they're the best warhammer minis yet produced in my opinion.

My problem is heavy weapons, since these have zero representation in 30k Solar Auxilia. I have two ideas.

First, is to use carriages. A number of secondary sites produce them, some with neat steampunkish themes the fit really well with Solar Auxilia. I'd simply put a carriage (magnetized for multiple options) on a heavy weapon based with two riflemen and call it a day. However, this is actually the most expensive option in a rather expensive project.

Secondly, is to have the men hoist their weapons marine style. I can rather easily convert some velentaris to hold marine weapons from the 30k range on their own. The weapon holder would share a base with a rifleman so complete the team. This option is far cheaper (the marine gun bits are cheaper than carriages and I'd need two crew either way) but I fear the base would look rather empty and I know that magnetization would be difficult, if not impossible, since the bits are rather small and in resin. Since the only heavy weapon I regularly want to field is a lascannon, I'm of mixed concern with magnets but future proofing an army is never a bad idea.

What does the community think? If you had it your way, which would you go with?

Sounds like a nice plan, looking forward to seeing the army come together  Having carriages feels better to me, they'd be more obviously a HWT and fill the base better as well as being easier to do. Building a Guard army out of resin does weakens the cost argument - in for a penny in for a pound :laugh.::wink:
