Berzul
Hi everyone. I bring you a brief battle report from a battle I had yesterday against a friend's Death Guard army. It was a 1250 point battle, of Cleanse and Capture from the Maelstrom Missions, with Vanguard Strike Deployment. The armies where: DARK ANGELS Vanguard and Outrider Detachments. A Ravenwing Bike Squad, a Ravenwing Attack Bike Squad, and a Darkshroud, led by a Librarian on a bike; then two Deathwing Terminator Squads and a Dreadnought, led by a Company Master in Jump Pack. Hidden Content DEATH GUARD A Patrol Detachment. Typhus, leading a large unit of Pox Walkers, a unit of Plague Marines in a Chaos Rhino, a unit of Terminators, 3 Plague Drones, a Bloat Drone, a Plagueburst Crawler, and some Nurglings. Hidden Content DEPLOYMENT The Death Guard went first, placing the Terminators an Typhus in Deep Strike, while deploying the rest of the army in a line across the forward edge of his deployment zone, and with his Nurglings infiltrating onto Objective number 2, which was out of both our deployment zones. Hidden Content My Dark Angels I deployed on the opposite end, with the Deathwing in Deep Strike, the Ravenwing out of LoS, and my Dreadnought on the far end of the table to engage his Nurglings. Hidden Content TURN ONE Having finished deploying first, I had first turn. My objectives where Area Denial, Mission Critical Objective 6, and Secure Objective 2. I moved my Dreadnought forward, to close the gap from the Nurglings, hoping to push them out of the objective. I then moved the Attack Bikes out of cover to a 23" distance from his Chaos Rhino, with the Bikers advancing to a forward position to keep them covered, jinking to get the most defensive position possible under the Darkshroud. My Deathwing dropped on both sides of his defense line, while my Company Master dropped on to objective number 6 which was on top of a building, and to the left side of my Ravenwing Bikers. Hidden Content During the psychic phase I managed to cast aversion on the Plagueburst Crawler, before moving to the shooting phase. Saddly, I had very unlucky rolls, and did nothing but 3 wounds on the Nurglings and 2 wounds on one of the Plague Drones. I kept with my bad rolls, because despite using my command points, I tried and failed to charge the Nurglings, the Plague Drones and the Chaos Rhino. Hidden Content Still, I managed Area Denial and Mission Critical Objective 6, getting 3 points in total. My opponent drew Scour the Skies, Assassinate, and Secure Objective 4. For his turn, he dropped the Plague Marines out of the Chaos Rhino, then moved forward with his drones, while placing Typhus behind my Terminators right on top of Objective 4, and his own Terminators over Objective number 1 to the right of my Outrider Detachment. His Plagueburst found itself too close to target most of my army, and with Aversion, it did little in terms of damage. But, although my forces managed to survive most attacks that turn, it did get charged quite easily. Although I had managed to finish off a Drone with overwatch, otherwise, my Deathwing Terminators had gotten stuck in a difficult situation. Hidden Content By the end of his turn I had failed to kill his Drones, while he managed to kill off one of my Terminators. We ended up stuck in combat, right into turn two. TURN TWO I drew Defend Objective 1, and Blood and Guts. My bikers repositioned against the Terminators over towards their right side, while my Dreadnought moved forward to get into better LoS of Tyhpus and better charge range of the Nurglings. My Company Master dropped from the building he had landed on, to give the Ravenwing his Rites of Battle aura. I managed some smite wounds, cast aversion on the PLagueburst Crawler again, and then proceeded to drop a massive volley of bolter, storm bolter and plasma fire on the Terminators, killing 2 out the 5. The Dreadnought got two wounds on Tyhpus, and my Deathwing Terminators managed to kill off one Plague Marine. Then came the charges, and while my Terminators got into combat with the Rhino (quickly tying in the Plague Marines in the process), my Dreadnought got into combat with the Nurglings, over on Objective 2. Hidden Content For his turn, my opponent drew Secure Objective 5, which was unfortunate, as both armies where quite tied in combat, which made it difficult to go after a far away objective like that, which was on top of a high rise deep behind his own deployment. With a some blessings from Typhus to the Pox Walkers and the Plagueburst Crawler failed every shot, we moved quickly to combat. My dreadnought made slow work of the Nurglings on this turn. Then his drones and my terminators kept punching each other, with my terminators taking heavy cassualties. On the far side, my Terminators, having tied the Plague Marines, dealt with them quickly, but otherwise the Death Guard was holding its ground perfectly. The problem was that my opponent was finding it impossible to accomplish objectives, while I had already a good lead in terms of victory points. TURN THREE On the third turn, I decided to disengage the Drones with my last Terminator. I then managed to smite the Chaos Terminators, effectively disengaging them from combat with my Ravenwing Bikers, who then went off to shoot the remaining models of the unit to death. My Second Deathwing Squad finished off the Plague Marines, and although my Dreadnought had still one last Nurgling to kill before he could claim Objective 2, this gave me First Blood, as well as Blood and Guts, while also securing me Objective 1 to defend for the following Battle Round. Hidden Content When my opponent began his third turn, he realized that the difference in victory points was far too wide for him to recover. Although my position was precarious, since he had managed to hold his ground far better than me, his army was now quite stuck beyond any possibility of achieving his objectives. Even though it was clear to me that, were we to push to the end, he had a good chance of taking me off the board, he decided that this was not the case. And so, with that, he decided rather to withdraw his armies and surrender the city. My Dark Angels recovered "Plague Town", and claimed their victory for the Emperor, with 6 victory points to 1. NovemberIX
Great battle report, and I love the terrain y'all are using, whatever it may lack in detail it more than makes up for in design and variety. Berzul
Thanks!! They were "fast built" buildings made from pretty much toy, shoe, liquor and medication boxes, pasted together and covered in tape. The idwa indeed was to make different amd wide buildings, for entire squads to have to navigate through or use. They lack detail... but, at rhe same time, they distract little from the heat of battle, and worl pretty good at adding height variety and total LOS blocks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341468-plague-town-a-picture-heavy-battle-report/#findComment-4935167 Share on other sites
