Frater Cornelius
Say I have some relatives in Imperium Nihilus (the part north of the Rift) or I just want to launch another Crusade, is there a way to cross it? Either going around it or fly through. Can you even see the Atronomican from the other side? Sandlemad
It's possible, in places. Not easy and not without cost but possible. See this extract from ADB's forthcoming book for an idea of how possible: https://twitter.com/adembskibowden/status/930392297828732928 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341515-is-it-possible-to-cross-the-great-rift/#findComment-4936025 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
So what you're saying is that if I want to see my realtives, I better pack a sizeable crew? Looking at the map, it seems pretty thin at some point. I wouldn't want to go through the center though. Besides, if I fly through the immaterium, what difference does it make? Warp is warp. Edit: Note that on this map there are two points marked as 'Temporary Rift Corridor'. Guess the Daemons are nicer in this part of the galaxy. Kastor Krieg
Or there are other mitigating factors at work. Things like the Necron structures at Cadia or the lighthouse. Jolemai
Guiliman manages to get reinforcements to Baal, so there has to be a way through. Jareddm
Possible? Sure. But so is ramming straight through a solid brick wall with your head. It's going to hurt a lot and a ton of people are going to die trying to attempt it, but some will be able to do it. Cryptix
There are at least two stable (for now!) routes through the rift, one of which is being held by the Iron Hands. Well, at least it's a codex chapter. Though I have the feeling they will block us untio they get a named Character in their rules. Nope the Ironhands one was destroyed by the traitors as they ran away and is now non functional Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341515-is-it-possible-to-cross-the-great-rift/#findComment-4936957 Share on other sites

Marshal Rohr
Realistically, there will a bunch of different crossings of varying intensity at varying times with varying difficulties of traveling across regardless of how the studio tries to portray each crossing as the only one. BrotherAtrox
Anything is possible with faith in the Emperor. Also, there's a part on the map labeled 'Nachmund Gauntlet', just "east" of the Eye. Ciler
Presumably, you can also just attempt a run through. Point the ship in the right direction and warp forward. The chances are slim at best, but you could end up on the other side. The warp is a fickle place. totgeboren
I assume the edges of the rift are like the edges of the Eye, as described in the second BL book? It's tolerable sailing around inside the Eye or outside the Eye, it's crossing the warpstorm/realspace overlap that wreaks your ship (except at the Cadian gate, where a crossover without major hassle is possible. The passages in the rift are probably similar, some points where the intensity of the storm is low enough that you can sail through without catastrophic losses. This explanation would also allow the forces inside the Eye to travel along the rift in relative safety, only emerging at either of the two passages (there might be more exit points that only go in/out of the rift, not through though). Marshal Rohr
Well, going by real world theories, to cross dimensions it takes a tremendous amount of energy so I’d imagine the rift is so difficult because it requires you to cross dimensions from real space into the warp, and then from the warp back into realspace (considering it seems like it was made from just dragging the eye across the Imperium lengthwise?) so your ship would be stressed to the power of two instead of a single jump tunneling through the warp?
