Jakeball74
Hi, What would be the best way to do Tyranid battle damage to my vehicles? ChaptermasterBenji
The first thing that came to mind was use a dremmel or other equally effective tool to make small pits or divits or small craters in the hull and or on large edges of the rhino and give it that radiated biomass look by giving it a green glow in the center and edge highlights around the pitting to add to the effect. You could even use some nurgles rot to give it an oozing effect. Golf33
You could heat up a round-headed pin and use it to melt holes and gouges for bio-plasma. Grab the pointy end of the pin in the jaws of a pin vice so you don't burn your fingers, and be careful of the fumes. Brother-serpent Tylydox
Nail polish melts plastics. Just don't get high on the fumes, I've heard it's a thing among those who can't afford crack. OnboardG1
An easy one for claw marks is to get a triangular file and score irregular gashes in the armour plate. I did this on the front of the rhino below. You can leave the marks shiny for new damage or put some typhus corrosion into them to make it look like older damage. http://i.imgur.com/S4laM7m.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341524-battle-damage/#findComment-4937731 Share on other sites
Jakeball74
Cool. It will be for a Rhino that survived fighting Hive Fleet Leviathan. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341524-battle-damage/#findComment-4938410 Share on other sites
MaliGn
I have a vague memory of a white dwarf article from about ten years ago that discussed various kinds of Tyranid damage. Combat_Vet
I did mine with a pinvise and two small drill bits. The trick is to drill at different angles and different depths around a "center" damage point. Hope that makes sense. Macabre Slanneshi Prince
This is usually used for nurgle corruption, but this "frog-skin" tutorial could work for bio-plasma damage. http://santacruzwarhammer.blogspot.com/2010/05/nurgle-frog-skin-rot-on-vehicles.html https://i.imgur.com/ANJnEXT.jpg Localize it, paint it silver instead of the green on that tank, and put carbon burn marks at the edge and you'll get a very unique effect. Subtle Discord
You know, if you're working on styrene models you can a very convincing corroded and acid burned effect using thin solvent adhesive. Use a drill, knife, Dremel, and/or other tools to do some damage to the surface, then apply a modest amount of the solvent to the damaged area, so it pools just a little bit; shape the 'splash area' as desired as the solvent works. The surface will soften and begin to distort and wrinkle, edges and scratches in the surface will facilitate the effect more, giving the effect more variety, depth, and visual appeal. Experiment a bit on some old models or some spare parts and you'll quickly see how it works and get the hang of controlling the effect. Unfortunately, this only works on styrene models. Polyurethane resin is all but completely resistant to solvents.
