Had something occur to me while at work (I have a pretty easy job so my mind wanders a lot).

Anyone consider giving a Captain Raven's Fury, a combi-melta, and a thunder hammer to serve as a character/monster/vehicle assassin?

At a little over 130 points, it seems he has the potential to make his points back and then some.

"But Claws, why a combi-melta of all the ranged weapons you could give him?"

Simple. You can fire the meltagun portion of it after advancing.

So he could move/advance, fire his meltagun, and charge thanks to the Raven's Fury.

A potential 18 damage out of him if you roll perfect.

I currently build a model for something similar, just with a bike. Can't charge after advancing, but has 20" guaranteed movement in case the usual 14" don't get it done. That should be enough to get around certain screening units and fire the melta part at a character. T5 and the armour indomitus (2+/3++) instead of T4 and Raven's Fury, so that guy is rather designed to stick around rather than charge directly.

I looked into a bike Captain too. I might just run both and decide who the Warlord will be per game.

Do the armor on the bike guy and the Iron Resolve trait, or Ravens Fury and whichever trait gives +1A on the charge.

Well... my beatstick is a budget beatstick.

Captain, jump pack, chainsword(teeth of terra), storm bolter.  When facing an army with strong CC characters I give him Champion of Humanity warlord trait.

So far this guy has punked 2 daemon princes, 3 chaos lords, a tech marine, and a few other space marine captains.

Currently I'm building the option to create a double beatstick beatstick. The mentioned thunder hammer indomitus captain, joined by an apothecary on bike with the teeth of terra. Either the enemy tries to kill the more resilient, auto-healing captain, or they focus on the apothecary first, while the primary beatstick goes on unchallenged. Also, the apothecary can bring back fallen scoutbiker chaff, or heal injured ones (all 2W).
