sneakybamsen
Brothers, With just a few weeks untill our codex hits the shelves, I came to remember something I read back when our discoulered brothers got their book in july - the non-primaris lieutenant. A character option I most definitely expect The Unforgiven to receive as well. Since I don't like the idea of primaris within our legion, as I don't feel they fit the fluff, I thought that would be the way to go for me if I want to have the lieutenant rules available. So my "question" is how should I model him? From what parts should he be built? I've considered using a chaplain, captain, company master or perhaps our robed vets. If I went with one of the first three, there would be some trimming down on embelishments to do for sure. If you have any pics to show of YOUR non-primaris lieutenants, I, at least, would really like to see them. I have some bits lying around, but not a lot, so I know I'll have to invest in some kit to get it done. Thanks for any input in advance. Halandaar
Great topic, I was actually pondering just this issue myself yesterday. Looking forward to seeing what responses are given! One thought I had was that the company champion from Deathwatch Overkill would make a decent lieutenant; he a bit more embellished than your average marine, but not so much so that he looks like a Company Master or anything like that. Cpt. Bannockburn
I have bought a number of HH Dark Angels upgrade torsos and helmets for this express purpose :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341588-non-primaris-lieutenant-modelling/#findComment-4937863 Share on other sites
Chaplain Raeven
Make him stand out like the Primaris-variant, by markings. I would give them a stripe on the helmet. Bone for Greenwing, green for Ravenwing and black for Deathwing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341588-non-primaris-lieutenant-modelling/#findComment-4937866 Share on other sites
Cpt. Bannockburn
I thought about giving the breather part of his helmet a bone colour, painting the rest green. I don't know if there will be DW / RW lieutenants, but if there are, I'll probably paint the breather part green and the rest in company colours. Bone for Greenwing, green for Ravenwing and black for Deathwing I see where the painting part is going, and it's a reasonable idea for sure. I just might do something like that. But how would you model him? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341588-non-primaris-lieutenant-modelling/#findComment-4937877 Share on other sites
Saphrael
I've been using FW HH upgrade helmets on my robed marines for veterans and they look great, I'd suggest going that route. However, I really wouldn't expect us to get the non-Primaris lieutenant, it seems to me like a very deliberate omission in the Index... Ciler
If I may give my hindsight as a "regular" SM player. the Black Templars have always had fluff-wise a rank intermediate between a captain and a sergeant (castellan), so I have made this fellow as a prospective castelan : Ornamented sternguard veteran legs, fancy helmet and chest plate from the BT sprue (plus a bit of GS to extend the tabard), a crux terminatus from the command squad sprue to denote veteran rank and a fancy cape because why not. To me there's enough bling to mark the model as definitely not rank and file. You could probably achieve a similar effect using (as suggested) either heresy or DA veteran bits. Chaplain Raeven
But how would you model him? Like a fancier sergeant. The best bolter or pistol/sword in the bitzbox and some honours on his armour. A robed body would be my limit, I wouldn't go fancier than that. They don't have the same bling as an Company Master or Captain, they're just a grade higher than a sergeant. I think you made a typo - the non-primaris lieutenant was added in codex space marines, he's not in the index. Since space marines got him, and he's not in the index, and DA shouldn't be too fuzzed over primaris, I think it would make perfect sense for us to get him. Of course, there is no official model for him, but they could be making that one for later release. Cpt. Paulochromis
The Space Marines Veterans Mk2 box has some reasonable figures. The Standard Bearer and/or Champion from the Honour Guard box (would need to remove the 'U's) aren't bad either. Both the Sternguard boxes (regular and Blood Angel) have nice figures too. Thanks for the input - I've had a look through the kits you mentioned, but I think with what I would like to try to achieve, the DA veteran box gives the best base. I'm out of robed bodies, so I'll need to get a box, but that allows me to at least get some plasma goodness going if I want to. Or more of my pistoliers with plasma and bolt pistols. Yes, I have 7 of those at the moment. Take those to 10, and build a champion out of the last one. Almagor
My non-primaris lieutenants. One is Zameon Gydrael, back from his stint in Deathwatch. The other is a robed vet. with a Deathwing Knight head, to give him a more distinct look. Cpt_Reaper
So non-primaris lieutenants are a thing? This pleases me. I do, however, now need a second lieutenant. Cpt. Bannockburn
They are a thing in the Space Marines codex, and it's speculated that they'll be in the DA / BA codices as well. No hard facts on that though, but it seems probable. Interrogator Stobz
I have merely added a 32mm base to a couple of veteran minis and armed them with sword and plasma pistol (coz iconic DA stuffs). I like the older (not really old) minimalist monk look for most of my dudes with the casual observer being unable to discern leaders from line troopers. And when they become official I will repaint them too. Halandaar
I had a root around in my bits box yesterday and put together this guy. Assuming Lieutenants are included in the book, he seems like a good candidate, otherwise he'll just be a sergeant. Its the Sergeant torso from the Dark Vengeance Bikers on the legs from Librarian Turmiel, with a Death Company Plasma Pistol and some accessories to hide the not-so-tidy join between the parts. The new Lt. for the primaris recieved a robe as well, so the robes for your regular Lt. seem like a good choice. sneakybamsen 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341588-non-primaris-lieutenant-modelling/#findComment-4939869 Share on other sites
