TechType
Hi all, I haven't played in an age and list-building was never my strong suit, so I'd really appreciate a bit of help with my Fist-list. I should mention: Unit choices are decided in part based on what I enjoy the look of and what I think I'd enjoy painting - I don't need this to be top-tier, but I'd like to be able to do a pickup game without being utterly destroyed, and your comments would be much appreciated! This being said, there's nothing I'm absolutely wedded to, other than really wanting to include the termie squad in cataphractii and the Consul Champion and Banner bearer from the command squad. I've got the majority of the models in this list already, but I'm absolutely not opposed to getting more plastic, as both my bank account and bits box can attest. Zone Mortalis, 1500 points - HQ [460pts] - Legion Champion (Consul) [110pts]: Artificer Armour , Bolt Pistol, Melta Bombs, Power Sword Praetor, Legion [350pts]: Artificer Armour, Digital Lasers, Grenade Harness, Iron Halo, Paragon Blade, Plasma Pistol Command Squad, Legion [150pts]: Melta BombsSpace Marine Chosen: Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Combat Shield, Power Fist Space Marine Chosen: Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Combat Shield, Power Fist Standard Bearer: Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon - Elites [240pts] - Apothecarion Detachment [50pts] . Apothecary: Augury Scanner, Chainsword/Combat Blade, Power Armor Contemptor Dreadnought Talon [190pts] . Contemptor Dreadnought, Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon, Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon - Troops [640pts] - Tactical Squad [155pts]: 9x Tactical Space Marines . Additional Wargear: Additional Chainswords/Combat Blades, Bolters, Vexilla . Tactical Sergeant: Bolter, Chainsword/Combat Blade Terminator Squad [255pts] - Cataphractii Armour . Terminator Sergeant: Pair of Lightning Claws . Terminator: Pair of Lightning Claws . Terminator: Pair of Lightning Claws . Terminator: Pair of Lightning Claws . Terminator: Chainfist, Heavy Flamer Veteran Tactical Squad [230pts] - Veteran Tactics: Marksmen . Veteran Sergeant: Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Power Fist . Veteran Space Marine W/ Special Weapon: Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Heavy Bolter and Suspensor Web . Veteran Space Marine W/ Special Weapon: Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Plasma gun . Veteran Space Marine: Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Vexilla, Power Sword . 6 Veteran Space Marines: Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Chainsword - Heavy Support [160pts]- Heavy Support Squad [160pts]: . 5 Autocannons Rite of War: Pride of the Legion The plan is to grind the opponent down with the HSS and the Marksmen Vets, try to position the Tacticals to pull of a rapid-fire Fury of the Legion with that lovely BS5, and let the Termies and Command Squad handle counter-assaults. Apothecary will slot into the Command Squad to give them a bit of resilience, and the dread goes hunting for either other walkers or smallish infantry blobs, where the Kheres or the DCCW can really hurt. I'm positive there's holes in that plan large enough to drive a Land Raider through, so I'd love to hear your thoughts. Kisada
Any concerns the close combat cataphractii won't be able to get into the fight because of slow movement and no delivery method? What about some vigil pattern storm shields for that 3++? Kizzdougs
Looking pretty decent. A couple of points: The Praetor can't take a grenade harness (it's only available to models in Terminator armour), and there wouldn't be any point in giving him one because he already comes with frag and krack grenades as standard. Like Kidash pointed out, the Cataphractii Terminators would really benefit from being able to deep strike to compensate for the lack of manoeuvrability. You could give them a teleport transponder. You don't really need to take Pride of the Legion. A ZM Combatant force only requires one Troops choice (but is limited to two Elite choices...). I'd suggest the Zone Mortalis Assault Force Rite of War (makes the Terminators Troops and gives them deep strike for free). Do you mind if I have a go at adjusting your list a bit? TechType
*EDIT* Just to demonstrate how slow I am in posting, Kizzdougs actually managed to ninja me. Serves me right for being a slowpoke... Kizzdoug, you're more than welcome! I've removed the grenade harness from the Praetor (good catch, btw!) and used the points for another combi-plasma in the vet tac squad that'll let my termies drop down where I want them. I considered the ZMA Rite, but it would mean that my vets would have to go in the Elites section, and I'd have to drop either them, the apotecary or the dread. Do you reckon that'd be worth it? I'm utterly noobish here, so I really do appreciate the input. :) */EDIT* First off - Thanks for the comment Kisada. It's much appreciated! I have plenty of worries about their lack of delivery! My reasoning is that vehicles that aren't walkers are banned from ZM games, so sticking them in a LR is out. Teleportation is, as I understand it, the alternative, but I'm worried that they'll end up in ideal rapid-fire range, and then get assaulted - I'd much prefer them to get the charge off. My plan, such as it is, is to hug terrain with them, and use them as a counterassault unit, letting the remainder of the army whittle the opponents forces down. Alternately, I can either deepstrike them as-is, or go for a slightly different build where the vet squad instead is a sniper squad with a nuncio-vox, 2 combi-plasmas and a heavy bolter, hope to get a decent infiltration location and then deep strike the termies within 6 inches of them, perhaps when my opponent has a cc-unit coming up to deal with the snipers. Would that work better, you think? Or should I re-spec entirely, grab some shields off FW, and have them as a huge, threatening block of impending yellow doom, perhaps with this list: Legio VII: Imperial Fists, LoyalistRite of War: Pride of the LegionZone Mortalis, 1500 pts+ HQ [440pts] +Legion Champion [110pts]: Artificer Armour, Bolt Pistol, Melta Bombs,Power SwordPraetor [320pts]: Artificer Armour, Digital Lasers, Iron Halo, Melta Bombs, Paragon Blade, Plasma Pistol. . Kizzdougs
I recon you could run your last list just fine. I'm not too keen on the Legion Champion, but he's pretty cheap points wise This is what I came up with. Sorry for the wait... Imperial Fists Zone Mortalis Combatant Force Rite of War: Zone Mortalis Assault Force In games of ZM this Rite of War is pretty much without any downsides. Pride of the Legion is great but it comes with the risk of awarding your opponent an additional 2 victory points which can be pretty decisive in ZM. 1,500pts. HQ Praetor: 370pts. Artificer armour, iron halo, master-crafter paragon blade, power fist, digital lasers. This guy takes names. On the charge he has 7 attacks (either I5, S5, AP2, instant death on a 6+, or I1, S8, AP2). Command Squad - standard bearer: power fist, combat shield. 4x Chosen: 3x charnabal sabres, 1x power fist, 4x combat shields. I maxed out the Command Squad to the full 5 men for a bit more staying power. The squad has two power fists incase you run into to dreadnoughts/monstrous creatures/terminators, and three charnabal sabres for some cheap rending attacks. They all have combat shields. ElitesContemptor-cortus dreadnought talon: 315pts. Cortus Dreadnought: dreadnought chainfist (heavy flamer), dreadnought close combat weapon (heavy flamer). Cortus Dreadnought: Kheres pattern assault cannon, dreadnought close combat weapon. I've gone for the Cortus Contemptors because of their cheaper price. One has the Kheres Assault cannon that you wanted, and the other is a pretty intimidating combat platform (6 attacks on the charge if you give it Rage, or you could give it +1 initiative to have it attack before regular marines with it's 4(5 on the charge) attacks at S10, AP2. Veteran Tactical Squad: 270pts. Marksmen, melta-bombs. Sergeant: artificer armour, power fist. Veteran: power weapon, vexilla. Veteran: power weapon, nuncio-vox. Veteran: flamer. Veteran: flamer. Veterans x5. This is a good all round unit. The boltguns will be firing at BS5, wounding on a 4+ with Rending and Precision Shot. The flamers gain shred because of the ZM rules and Rending thanks to Marksmen. The Melta-bombs mean that this unit will be able to take on dreadnoughts and complete ZM objectives that need to be destroyed, as well as breaching locked doors etc. The nuncio-vox allows the Terminators to deeps strike without scattering (which can be extremely dangerous in ZM). The power weapons can be pretty great value considering that the Veterans have 4 attacks each on the charge. Troops Breacher Siege Squad: 270pts. 2x flamers, nuncio-vox, vexilla. Sergeant: artificer armour, power fist. Breachers are pretty decent in ZM, especially with the ZM Rite of War (4++ save in combat). They also have hardened armour which allows them to re-roll armour saves against templates and blasts (which is great considering that a lot of people take flamers in ZM), and makes them immune to the effects of the Cold Void rule. Legion Terminators: 275pts. Sergeant: chainfist, storm shield. 2x terminators: chainfist, storm shield. 2x terminators: power fist, storm shield. These terminators are as hard as nails. The 2+3++ is pretty hard to beat (and helps them survive enemy shooting when they deep strike in), and chainfists make them a real threat to enemy dreadnoughts. I understand that you want to use the Imperial Fist Champion model that comes in the command set as a Legion Champion. In the list that I wrote I imagined using him as the Praetor (the model would look great as a Praetor), a much better choice than the Champion. If you don't want to convert the champion model to have a power fist you could just spend the points on some upgrades for the Cortus Dreadnoughts instead. I included the Breachers because they are pretty fluffy for the Imperial Fists and extremely fluffy for a ZM force. If you like the list that you wrote yourself then you should give it a try, it seems pretty decent Edited November 28, 2017 by Kizzdougs Kisada, Reyner and TechType 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341607-1500-imperial-fist-zone-mortalis/#findComment-4944228 Share on other sites
Reyner
I like your list Kizzdougs so I may steal it as a base for my ZM Imperial Fists - only thing I will change is to give the Terminators an Assault Cannon purely because I bought them when they came out! TechType
Sorry for taking this long to reply, work's been busy lately! Kizzdougs, that looks rather good! I reckon I'll go for that list. I've got a good part of the models already, and a small FW order will suffice. :) Thanks again man, it's really helpful. Laughingman
Maybe worth looking at a regular dreadnought with a armored ceramite and inferno flamestorm cannon for an AP3 flamer template with shred and potentially rending, if you are playing cold void rules. I believe you can reaction fire with dreadnoughts, which makes trying to melta-bombing them to death even harder.
