FirstSonofHorus
Hi All, I'm working on a Blood Angels Ultima Founding chapter scheme. I was wondering if anyone had any comments and critique. I'm particularly interested in ideas about transfer ideas for the shoulder and the basing. Especially the basing! I was interested in doing a badlands style basing approach, but am open to ideas. (the gun and helmet are not yet finished!) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341713-primaris-painting-and-basing-advice/ Share on other sites
TechType
Looks good, you've got a nice red tone there. I dunno if it's visible in normal light, but the black on the shoulderpads and the gun are slightly translucent and the red basecoat shows beneath it just a tiny bit - I might consider hitting those spots with the black once again. Chapter symbol-wise, the black inserts give you a lot of options. The scheme is a bit too close to the BA one that you can get away with just a red/white/yellow blood drop without them looking like just regular BA, IMHO. Will you be adding battledamage like on the Ultras in your log? (Who are quite nice as well, btw!) I think badlands would fit him perfectly, a bright brown/yellow tone to complement the red. Perhaps adding some greenery to the base would add some additional contrast? Of course, you could also go with a very dark base to set him off, dark grey ruins perhaps? They'd give a lot of contrast to the bright reds. Ovidius Incertus
Ditto TechType. You can see your red base through the black, so you'll need to hit them again. The winged skull crest needs some more definition, too. A heavy wash and then bring the metallic up again would work. Its tone really blends in with your red, so try to separate the colors (or, alternately, paint it black). For the base, if you want to do wasteland type stuff, coat your base a dark brown, then go over it with Agrellan Earth, the GW crackle paint, and call it done, unless you want to glue some rocks on.
