Shadow Captain Vyper
The further along in 8th edition we get, the more I can see an argument made for a free living rulebook (A Corebook with core rules and possible point values for all codices) being the best thing for the health of the game. They can still print physical books and codices, just give us an up-to-date rules book that is free. duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341857-quantifying-fun-balance-and-offering-trials-to-opponents/page/2/#findComment-4959051 Share on other sites
Mileposter
Even if it wasn't free, having the 'living' portion be a part of one of the yearly updates I think is going to be essential. A compendium of the changes in the edition. Buying said book prevents the need for carrying 3 others just for the points values. I had hoped Chapter Approved would be it. Still a chance that the mid-year update could be it, and that might be why they've been so tight-lipped about it. Here's hoping. Wargamer
I can't recall all Chapter Tactics off the top of my head, but the obvious first port for me would be to remove the penalty for moving and shooting - Space Marines are a mobile strike force after all. Personally, the ones I can remember don't jump out as being all that bad... except perhaps when stuck on a Flyer or Land Raider. The idea of more hit penalties on a Flyer rubs me the wrong way, so I'd suggest they be removed from the equation. Both ideas might need a point increase somewhere. The former suggestion is a simple way to keep to the theme of Marines in general, if not a specific Chapter / Legion. Jacques Corbin
My only gripe is that my Stormtalon is now more expensive (point-wise), and more fragile than my Ironclad Dreadnought. The fact that dreads get Chapter Tactics is yet another reason my Stormtalons are staying boxed up. For me, fun is adaptability, rather than a solid win condition. Still, I do like having our CT giving my anchor gun line more survivability. Plus, pop smoke on your Ironclad after moving it up, and dare your opponent to fire at it at -2 to hit, irl move within 12". I have been using Assault Marines with Strike from the Shadows, but now I am considering blowing Command Points to use my Solar model (Captain with Plasma Pistol and Power Sword) and a unit of Company Veterans, each armed with a Plasma Gun and a Chainsword. That is 3 attacks on each veteran, and 4 on the Sergeant. Basically, pop up, spray away rerolling 1s to hit, so supercharge with impunity, rapid fire on the guns and 1 pistol shot for the captain. I may bring an Apothecary just to be a jerk. varchilde 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341857-quantifying-fun-balance-and-offering-trials-to-opponents/page/2/#findComment-4962337 Share on other sites
