General Strike
I want to make a Battalion of Daemons of Tzeentch, what would you recommend I build? I might try to find third party models for pink horrors, not sure yet. Trollbeard
I have found Flamers to be very good, I ran a squad of 6 in my last game against eldar and they made probably close to double their points back. Brimstone horrors are very cheap and very durable with a 4++. You could fill out your troop requirements for only 90 points. The changeling is almost an auto take due to his locus of transmogrification rule, which forces enemy units to -1 to all hit rolls against units within 9 inches of him. Heralds on a disc can get into a good position for summoning pretty quick and are a cheapish source for smite. DeStinyFiSh
I guess like with most armys, 2 or 3 Start Collecting boxes are a good idea to... ehm... start collecting a new army. But with a new Codex just a few weeks away and a rumoured Smite nerf (was not in CA, so maybe FAQed later) it is hard to give any recomendations. Especially since the Codex Chaos Daemons is supposed to differ more from the Index than any other Codex that has been released by now. General Strike
Smite nerf? Like they did with GK? I got interested in Daemons of Tzeentch because I like the bigger kits and because I wanted to play a psychic phase army. I will have to wait and see. Trollbeard
They are apparently going to change smite somehow, no word on whether it will be hanged to be similar to the GK one though. Tzeentch has the weakest psychic powers of the three gods IMO. It's usually better to smite then use the powers. Exalted flamers can do some good work with the str 9 ap -4 gun. It can be unreliable at times though. But you can park a few in a blob of horrors for protectIon because they are classified as characters so they can't be targeted. yergerjo
Are Exalted Flamers that good? With the short range, they must move more frequently dropping them to a 4+ to hit. Is there anything to mitigate this? Buying up now, starting mono tzeentch in January after this semester is done Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341867-where-to-start-daemons-of-tzeentch/#findComment-4957863 Share on other sites
Skallagoose
Are Exalted Flamers that good? With the short range, they must move more frequently dropping them to a 4+ to hit. Is there anything to mitigate this? Buying up now, starting mono tzeentch in January after this semester is done i havent tried them out in a tournament setting. HOWEVER: i plan on it At first: i thought they were kind of terrible with their low range, and heavy weapon status... but then i saw it... "character". You have a 4++ character with 2 short range lascannons hitting on a 4+, or a great anti-meq flamer weapon that can HIDE behind a unit of 4++ brimstones, all for under 100 pts. Suddenly they look like one of the best units in the game. I think they are slightly over-costed, as i believe they should be about 50pts per, with individual flamers being 20pts per (rather than the 25(ish) they are right now). I do not think they are good on the vehicle- as they lose character benefits and they already are pretty fast. Much more survivable hiding behind brims or screamers or other flamers. All in all i love the rules of tzeentch daemons, but they are all over-costed (with the exception of brimstones...) yergerjo
Yeah the character thing is the best part with it. I'm happy atm with my current mental 2k list...it certainly is character soup... BoomWolf
What IS your current mental list? I'm considering some exalted flamers to assist my thousand sons with anti-tank solutions, but I've having doubts about is and how many of them I should pack. I'm packing horrors for easy objective holding/screens anyway, so delving into more tzeentch deamons costs me nothing. and I've got three models who can fit the bill (its either flamers, exalteds or spawn for these guys basically.) The question is, are the EF actually useful?
