With my Death Guard army nearly at the final stages, and my imperial stuff staying mostly a side project, it's almost time to start a new chaos army. Typically I stick to themed/fluff lists as they work well in my tiny 4 man meta. (hopefully five soon, almost have another brought into the fold) and the winds seem to blow in the favor of the blood God. So I was looking for some advice about army construction for a pure CSM khorne list, idealy one that avoids spamming a select few units, and offers some good diversity in both units and modeling opportunities, FW units acceptable.

So, there's a few issues I'm having to start with. World Eaters or Black Legion, what kind of ranged support still feels Khornate, and beyond the necessary berserkers, what do I fill my 1500 points with?(1500 being the average/smallest games we run) with death guard I'm used to playing slow and shooty, so I'm fighting against my natural instincts here.

As i always say : If you want fluff, you want realistic.

A WE without any support is illogical so it is unfluff imho.

Beside Bezekers in rhino/dreadclaw you should consider :

- The obvious Demon Prince

- Predator and Havoc are great for anti-tank. If you want an assault army you should consider full melta Havoc in Rhino.

- Metabrutus are a great way to bring lascanon/melta and still get some teeth in assault.

- Cultist for objective

- Exalted Champ are great with low strenght units : like bezekers.

oh I agree, I like my forces to feel like actual military forces, even if they're fueled by rage. Also all great suggestions, thank you. And yeah, it feels like the exalted champ was made for khorne armies. With the price drop on the dreadclaws I've been a lot more tempted to order one or two lately. Even for my Death guard.

...and the first scenario that popped into my mind was an intergalactic teen romance story... :P

-What are you doing, babe?

-I've been thinking about you, Khorne!

haha. Feels like the wrong chaos god for that. Good laugh though.

Well Deathguard don't allow Oblits, so personally I'd design a list that had one squad of them in it. Trust me, you're going to need something like that.

Decimator with twin butcher cannons. Combine with the Daemonforge stratagem for some extra fun.

Also, obliterators are awesome.

decimators have always been an interesting unit for me, and as I'm iffy on the models themselves, a great conversion opportunity. Will add that to the potential list.

But oblits? Really? They seemed kind of lackluster to me. I feel like AC havocs would produce a similar outcome. But I've been dead wrong before so I'd love to hear the reasoning there.

You should consider this option: 10xterminators with lightning claws. It is 41 attack for World eaters after charge. And you can fight twice for stratagems. And if you somehow manage to put Dark Apostle behind them, you get full reroll.

neat idea, but a unit like that at my typical points level feels too much like a point sink, especially if things go wrong. But hard to argue with those numbers.

Also, how do people feel about blood slaughterers? Cause I kind of love them(unit not model, again model is something I'd rather custom make.)

thank you all for the wonderful advice though
