(Mods, please move this if this is the wrong place for it.)

So, conversions are fun. Whether it's giving a sergeant a new head, scratch-sculpting an entire Greater Daemon or anything inbetween, converting is one of the great joys of the hobby. And like any fun activity, sometimes it results in something really, really stupid.

So this thread is for us to come up with and share silly, ridiculous or just plain daft conversion ideas, be they something as simple as googly eyes on a Carnifex or something as involved as creating a grimdark Warlord Titan-sized Mr. Staypuft! Share ideas, WIPs or even completed models (if you have them)! Go wild!

So anyway, in the interest of starting the ball rolling and humiliating myself, here's some of my ideas.

1: The Tyranime/Yokonid.

So people have been using bits of other models in their conversions for years, ranging from bits of Tamiya tanks for vehicles to complete alternative models for infantry. One model variety that doesn't get used so much, however, is Japanese "garage kits" based on various properties including anime, manga and videogames. These resin models are made by hobbyists and sold for a brief period at events with the licensor's blessing, and some of them are really, really incredible. Of course, originals are very rare and very expensive, but for those that don't want to chop up a 1990s original Rei Ayanami out of a batch of 15, there exists an alternative- recasts. These are available from various sources for various prices (I won't directly link to them as even though they aren't GW property it might still violate the rules) and some sources make them in good quality. And given that you're going to be hacking it up and mutating it into something completely different, it's much better to use a cheap-as-chips recast than a priceless original run garage kit.

Of course, the obvious thing to do with a resin kit of an attractive cartoon female would be to make it into a Keeper of Secrets. But I have a much better idea- combine it with Tyranid parts and make the world's cutest Bio-Titan.

My possible candidate for conversion is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's Yoko Littner.

Lots of resculpting would be involved, obviously, including adding the Gigeresque osmotic grilles everywhere, changing regular clothing into slimy chitin, and making the gun into a proper bio-weapon. And that's before we even begin on adding existing Tyranid parts (I'm thinking of replacing the chopsticks with Mawloc antennae as an example). I'll probably paint her in either the colours of my own army, or a 'Niddified version of her actual colour scheme.

If anyone else has any ideas on how to go about performing this questionable conversion, or wants to steal it and do it themselves, or just wants to say "What did Yoko ever do to you, you monster!?!?" then by all means go ahead!

2: The Genestealer Limousine of "Only Fools and Hormagaunts".

We all remember the Genestealer Cult Limo. I for one am quite sad it never got made for the new GSC codex. But we can still always convert our own out of car models, so all is not lost.

But why hack up a lovely Chevrolet or Cadillac? Why not give your Patriarch a somewhat more...amusing conveyance?

Why not, for instance, use a model Reliant Robin?

(Yes I am aware the "Only Fools and Horses" and "Mr Bean" cars were Reliant Regal vans, but they'd probably be harder to find models of for a sensible price.)

Not only would it be a blast to convert, it would also probably win you the game as your opponent falls about laughing and is unable to concentrate on not getting his Guardsmen eaten by Genestealers. After all, in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only...three wheels? The only question is, what would be the best scale to get a model in to convert it out of? 40K vehicles are of course not true-scaled, but we'd still want it looking approximately the right size (though having it be tiny would allow for hilarious clown-car shenanigans). The Robin was a fairly small car, but presumably this isn't an actual Robin but rather a much bigger vehicle built in a cult-corrupted manufactorum specifically for the Patriarch.

Anyway, that's my rambling out the way. Over to you guys!

I'm working on a Magical Girl-esque Librarian Dreadnought currently to lead the second detachment of Dreadnoughts in my Dreadnought list, working out how the heck I can repose arms is the bane of my existence though.

I'd always wanted to put my Chapter Master on a flying unicorn but never got around to that one, otherwise in terms of conversions I have actually done in the past, I made an all plastic Chaplain out of various spare bitz and had him kneel with a skull in hand, in homage to the "Alas, poor Yorrick" line from Hamlet.

And then there was the spare Hormagaunt given a spare Scout head. My teenage years were dark and impulsive times to be sure...

I think if this thread is to remain open, suggestions need to be more "obviously" 40k in some way. Just posting a picture of a 3-wheeled Robin Reliant or an Animé resin statue isn't particularly 40k, nor even very relevant to and conversion discussion.

By all means, if you have some humorous models or conversions that are suitable, please post them. However, please don't forget that we are here on B&C to share in the 40k universe in some way, and that anything straying from that is likely breaking the forum rules.

No problem! :)

It's an unusual topic, so I'm just pre-emptively asking people to be more circumspect than usual in what they post, inorder to keep the thread board-suitable and open.

Likewise, I understand why you posted the photos, but it would be more appropriate if you have something that you've at least started to "40k-ify", otherwise it just ends up being a thread with images unrelated to 40k in it. However some before-and-after pix would be fine though.

Hope that helps, and good luck! B)

I cannot take credit for this model, merely the idea - a friend of mine played Orks religiously before branching out into other armies. During one crafting party, he came up short an arm and a head for his last Ork boy. A few of us had several extra bits after building our armies, and we had just gotten done having a humorous discussion about how the Ork weaponry and equipment works simply because Orks believe so much that they do...

So an Ork Doc slapped a Necron head and arm onto the Ork torso and sent him into battle. Dat's roight shiny!

... And to this day we've yet to kill that model.
