Lately I've been wanting to try some different ideas for my cogboys other than the typical Cawl or Stygies Gunline I normally do. I've been getting the urge to be a bit more... aggressive with my play-style. Been coming up with a bunch of different lists as of late. Here's one I built. Is it competitive? Probably not. Will it work in a Maelstrom game? I highly doubt it. Will it be fun for me? Absolutely!

2,000pts
Battalion and Spearhead detachments (7 CP)

Battalion:

2x Dominoes (both basic wargear. Warlord with Monitor Malevolent(?) warlord trait. Non-warlord with Raiment of the Technomartyr relic)

2x 10-man Vanguard (3 plasma calivers, data-tether, and Alpha with taser goad)

1x 6-man Destroyer Squad (Heavy grav and cognis flamers)

20-man Fulgurite priests

1x Enginseer

4-man Robots (fists and carapace phosphor)

2x Neutronagers w/ extra stubber and data-tether

Here's the idea:

Deploy the Onagers, Vanguard, Enginseer and Warlord Dominus done first. Keep them together. Now my warlord trait comes into effect since he's on the table. Infiltrate in the Robots, Dominus with the Raiment relic, raving lunatics (excuse me, I meant Fulgurites), and the Destroyers with the Stygies stratagem. 4 CP spent with a possibility to roll a 6 and get at least one or two back. Robots near something big and expensive, Fulgurites near as much enemy chaff as possible (gotta get that 3++ asap), and the Dominus bubble-wrapped by the Destroyers somewhere else.

Turn one hits, either weather the incoming storm of pain from the enemy or get first turn. My first turn, march the Robots up, spend a CP end of Shooting Phase to switch to Conqueror Protocol and have them go to town with attacking twice on whatever they set their sights on. Fulgurites get their 3++ invul asap and just have them wreck whatever they attack. Destroyers split fire between heavy infantry/light armor with their grav, flamers on the chaff as well as for overwatch, Dominus there to provide healing, reroll 1's and the extra overwatch attacks with the Raiment relic.

Have the Neutronagers pop vehicles in the back, Vanguard for bubble-wrap or objective grabbing. Enginseer and Warlord Dominus with the Neutronagers to provide healing and reroll 1's in shooting.

Competitive? Probably not. Good against hordes? Definitely not Tyranids. Maybe Guard or Orks. Will it be fun for me to watch my opponent squirm as a bunch of raving madmen and giant murderbots supported by baby tankmen with gravity-warping guns and flamethrowers land right in his face? Absolutely!

I'd change my troops to 1*5 vanguard 1*5 rangers and get a unit of 3 brechers . I'd take 4 destroyers and take with all spare points even remove stubbers for 2-3 Dragoons . Good to have for screen or assault. Rest seem legit . And not so important if you loose 3-5 priests or one destroyer or some stubbers. For a dragoon and breacher screener offensive options.

Unfortunately I don't own any Dragoons... yet. We'll see on Christmas though.

Man I love the idea of running a huge unit of Dragoons under Stygies VIII, but the nearly $300 buy-in to play the unit makes me question why I don't just buy a cool FW model instead . . . :dry.:
