Andy Tea
Hi,What are people thoughts on the various dreadnoughts, any you think are really good, what weapon load outs do you prefer would you rather have blood talons or furioso fists, anything to avoid? just after some thoughts for building my all dreadnought armyA bit of background I don't currently play any type of marines (I don't like the models) but I love the dreadnought models So I have decided to make a pure dreadnought army. The only way I can do this is using blood angels so I'm starting a bled angels army but everything in it has to be a dreadnought - if its not a dreadnought it doesn't go in the army no exceptions. Also it has to be in the codex - no forge world stuff I know I may struggle in some fights and I'll never be able to hold an objective but I'm only a casual player so not bothered by it oh and my opponent insists on using power points meaning I only need to worry about the numbers 7,8,9, & 10 Cheers Andy
swordofmandulis
the biggest problem with dreads is getting them to where they need to be, especially for Furioso and DC dreads being (mostly) pure melee. to me its a bit of a liberty not giving us Venerables and then not making Furioso's hit on 2's but hey ho. the reduction in cost has made them much more useable. Frag cannons get a lot of stick and the price for them is ridiculous, but if you are using power then it really isn't a hindrance, once you get them in range they can melt chaff. why do you not want forgeworld? the chaplain venerable would be valuable character to add to your libby dread and they definitely don't seem to be the usual brand of forgeworld cheese. you will need a number of dakka dreads for sure. Las, autocannons, missile launchers (not sure how good these are). Twin Las, Twin Autocannon seems to be the winner here.
Charlo
The Furioso has been nerfed to the point of "why bother". The Frag Cannon now a shadow of what it once was (though it could clear hordes if you ever get in range). The DC Dread is awesome, especially with the Grapple and Lemartes meaning you only need a 7" re-roll charge. Talons mean it re-rolls hits and wounds so it'll smash home too. Then that 6" consolidate keeps it wrecking-balling through the backfield. Librarian Dread is insanty too, wounding most of the game on a 2+ with easy charges thanks to Wings and a Drop Pod. Panzer
Yeah without Drop Pods and without any real ranged weaponry I don't see any benefit in taking them unless you really love Dreadnoughts (like me :D ). Of our special Dreadnoughts I only see the Librarian one being useful due him being a psyker and more importantly a character with less than 10 wounds. Andy Tea
My current plan is 2x Libby 5x Regular - 2 or 3 With Lacannon and Missile for shooting the big stuff, the rest with assault cannons or Plasma Cannons for dakka 1 x DC - Talons 2x Furioso - Frag Cannons and fist 2x Redemptor - 1 each of big gattling cannon and big plasma gun I could switch around to be 2x DC and 1 x Furioso the other option is to rejig and get some Contemptors in to get the better assault cannon and inv save @Swordofmandulis (sorry quotes not working)my opponent and I have never used forge world stuff - its just not something we have done. plus having to use an extra book would annoy me also as its codex only I cant have autocannons Remtek 1 Back to top
BloodTzar
Only chassis I would go for is the Leviathan <3 ; either going dual claw, or nasty grav flux , with the FW drop pod he can bring awesome distraction in the enemy backfield. Now with the T1 charges we can do nasty stuff :)
Brother Crimson
The librarian dreadnought is an awesome HQ because it can hit hard and sanguinary discipline work well with it. I differ on frag cannon furioso opinion. I think it can do a good job as you can advanced and still get 2d6 auto shot at s6. If you don’t advance if you are lucky this will clear the way for a charge. For melee go DC. They are now less points ( and pl) from index to codex. In ranged, I really like the contemptor WS/BS of 2+ with increased move and 5++. Without FW stat it can only take assault cannon or multi melta but making one relic opens a lot of option if your opponent don’t mind FW. In my experience most people won’t mind if you take 1-2FW as special snowflakes, just don’t overdo it if they have reserves toward FW. There is still an advantage to dread army: with so many t7 sometimes you give a hard time to your opponent, just beware of melta. Panzer
With a full dread army it also means you need to be lucky with objectives or mostly table your opponent since you won't be able to hold any objectives against the opponent.
