dracpanzer
Has anyone else tried fielding a supreme command detachment of Blade of Admonition and Eviscerator armed Canoness with a squad of Celestians? I have used it in two games now and its an absolute buzz saw. I've been running them with stormbolters as well as one on the Celestian Superior, Celestians themselves are toting two meltaguns all bundled up in a Repressor. Its expensive, but still allows me points for two squads of Rets and an Imagifer after taking a full outrider of Repressor Doms and Celestine. Its a bit of a gaggle when you charge, but it is extremely proficient at turning Knights and other big bads into paste and scrap metal. Aqui
I've only ever used a Battalion Detachment for Sisters until recently, but that is an idea I'd never considered... I might have to put a couple of Canonesses in paint stripper and consider this seriously. The list I've made so far has 5 Canonesses (4x Inferno pistol and chainsword, 1x Inferno pistol with Blade of Admonition), a squad of 10 Celestians with the Superior with a Chainsword, the squad having a flamer and a heavy flamer. 458pts. Rather costly for the units, but it'd be fun to see what they can do though! My list would be 2000pts and have a Battalion Detachment with it, so probably another Canoness  with either a Priest or Celestine as further HQ's. A.T.
Could be interesting with different mixes of units. A dialogus to throw themselves under the bus for instance. Lord Grimskull
This is what I was thinking of when I came up with the other article. I favor the mauls for that precious +str and ap, I'm hoping volume of accurate attacks over heavier hits (i.e. evicerators) does the trick. Drac, do you run pistol upgrades too? If so which? I'm glad to hear this tactic might work. I've been working on a 1500pt list with it :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342322-canoness-squad/#findComment-4959715 Share on other sites
Aqui
Here is a very quick lost I made up for 2k points. I realise the list probably isn't effective for points, but I just wanted to see what I could field this way. I actually have the vast majority of the list below, Im not sure of how many of the Canonesses I have in those specific configurations and lack of enough Rhinos (I think. I need to check how many I have now  ), but I think it's a workable pair of detachments to have under some circumstances... Drider
How about sticking 4 canoness, a priest and celestians in a rhino then another rhino with a unit of repentia and a mistress? Quick math out is 4 canoness and a priest have the get the same number of canoness attacks as having 5 canoness. And if you are running anything in support or more than 4 canoness then adding a priest is better. Well, I do have a squad of 9 Repentia and Mistress that needs painting and a metal Clan Escher Juve to use as a Priest. The Supreme Command detachment only allows one Elite unit though, so I'd have to decide which is better, Celestians or Repentia. I haven't run either unit before, so I haven't a clue. I'm glad to hear this tactic might work. I've been working on a 1500pt list with it :) I ran them with stormbolters, the difference in points allowed me to take an Imagifer for my HB Rets. I subbed in my SB Dom superiors with swords on their hips to cover the proxy. I could just as easily sub out the Celestians meltaguns for stormbolters and put together inferno pistols on the Canoness models. With the re-roll of ones I didn't really see a huge fall off in accuracy, though admittedly it was a small sampling. I am going to keep working with it, I will try to report my experiences. My concern is that the Priest becomes a lynchpin in the setup (snipe target), and isn't quiet as survivalble as a 5th canoness (or as killie lacking the WS/BS and reroll), but they are cheaper and I'm always fishing for more pts. (I'm terrible at list building and want everything) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342322-canoness-squad/#findComment-4959831 Share on other sites
Eddie Orlock
... The Supreme Command detachment only allows one Elite unit though ...Okay, but nothing actually says that the units in the transport actually need to come from the same detachment. So, you could probably take a min squad of repentia, a priest, a mistress, a hospitalier, and four canonii and stuff them into one vehicle. dracpanzer
Got some games in today using the Canoness "squad". Inferno pistols and eviscerators with one toting BoA. First game against Tau they killed several tanks before mulching one of the Commanders. Second game against AM they disembarked shot a leman to death and charged another. Killed it on my opponents turn (seraphim had boxed it in with Celestine so it couldn't fall back) then they split up and each charged their own tank after firing their inferno pistols into them. Lost one to overwatch. The others killed a hell hound and three more lemans. Celestine destroyed the leman that claimed a Canoness in overwatch. Used Martyrdom to help the only Canoness who didn't kill her target to do so at the end if my fight phase. Five Canonesses, four lived through the battle. They killed five lemans (some shooting softened them up a bit before they disembarked) and a hell hound. They were great sprinting up behind my Dominion rush. I will definitely be finishing the conversion to inferno pistols from the SB superiors I had been using. Five Inferno pistols is a nice addition to the Eviscerator. Lord Grimskull
Drac! You rock! Glad to hear they work out so well. It'll be months before I'm up and running (gaming group currently focused on warmahordes ATM) but it's exciting to have something to look forward to. Montford
The more I think about it the more I like this! Thank you Dracpanzer! Right now for a 'Canoness Squad' I have four models: -Relic Blade and Inferno Pistol -Eviscerator and Bolt Pistol -Power Maul and Inferno Pistol -Power Axe and Combi-flamer I will be looking to convert a model to have an Eviscerator or Power Maul and Inferno Pistol I think. I may also convert the one carrying a bolt pistol to an inferno pistol. Man I'd really love it if they let us have melta bombs again.... Drider
I think i'm going to give it a shot this wednesday in a casual game along with a unit of repentia, mistress, priest and maybe imagifier. Might just go full melee and put the penitent engines on the table as well a blob or two of sisters and perhaps a few units of seraphim to grab objectives. going to need at least a battalion to fuel the CP consumption when characters die. Servant of Dante
With this kind of expensive all in unit I feel you’re really going to want several units of Dominions or other ways to get in their face immediately (seraphim I guess) to keep them from taking too much heat. Montford
Celestine will also draw attention (and gunfire). One thing I have noticed, and the price drop makes a little handier, is the amount of fire an Exorcist draws. With T8 those babies have some staying power, so right there may be another option to draw fire from the Canoness Squad. dracpanzer
I am running mine behind 6 squads of Repressor Doms backed up by Celestine and a couple squads of Rets. I am full in on doing the conversions now, chop chop chop... Seems to cut down on the number of drops at 2k as well.
