march10k
When you declare that a unit is advancing, do you have to actually go farther from your starting point than your normal move allows? If your move value is 8", for example, can you declare an advance, and then move 5", or do you have to end your move at least 8.000001" from your starting point? There aren't many units that would find it useful to declare an advance and then not move a long distance (since you generally give up shooting to do so, and not mane units gain anything but extra movement from it), but they do exist... bozo69pd
You can move up to as far as your movement +d6" allows. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342364-advancing/#findComment-4960585 Share on other sites
Medicinal Carrots
Advancing increases your move for the phase, but doesn't force you to move a certain distance. You can advance and stay still if you want. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342364-advancing/#findComment-4960667 Share on other sites
Khornate individual
What's the point of declaring an advance if your movement is 8" and you only want to move 5"? Medicinal Carrots
Dark Angels Ravenwing that want to get the jink save but don't want to move all the way. Harlequiens that want to do something similar with Prismatic Blur. Anything else that gains something other than distance from advancing but may want to stay on an objective or in range of a particular enemy. Medicinal Carrots
True, you could potentially want to kill off your unit with overheating plasma to deny your opponent a point in some rare circumstance. Zamtro
Or if you Advance hoping to move 12inches, don't make the roll, and 5 inches will put you in cover. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342364-advancing/#findComment-4961038 Share on other sites
Eddie Orlock
That's more than enough Tactica for one OR thread. We will have no more of this here. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342364-advancing/#findComment-4961393 Share on other sites
march10k
Or if you Advance hoping to move 12inches, don't make the roll, and 5 inches will put you in cover. I hadn't thought of this. Seems like Harlies and RW would have good cause to do this routinely, but everyone might benefit every now and then...
