Gentlemanloser
Can we make a significant 24" gunline? Just sit and pew pew with late gates for objectives? Something like; GK Gunline 2K GM, DH, Psycannon (193) Purgation x5, Psilencer x4 (117) Purgation x5, Psilencer x4 (117) Purgation x5, Psilencer x4 (117) GM, DH, Psycannon (193) Purgation x5, Psilencer x4 (117) Purgation x5, Psilencer x4 (117) Purgation x5, Psilencer x4 (117) GM, DH, Psycannon (193) Purifier x5, Psilencer x2 (144) Purifier x5, Psilencer x2 (144) Doomglaive (168) Razorback, Twin HB (87) Razorback, Twin HB (87) Razorback, Twin HB (87) Total 1998. That's; 24" 168 x S4, AP0, Dd3 30 x S4, AP0, D1 12 x S7, AP-1, D1 6 x S7, AP-1, D2 36" 18 x S5, AP-1, D1 All with reroll 1s to hit. Beams
That's not a lot of command points, bit it seems like it's be fairly effictive? I mean, 168 psilincer shots should hurt. I'd feel better about it if you could do Psibolt ammo more often Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342405-gk-gunline/#findComment-4961497 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
6CP is about standard. If only psychic onslaught was 1CP. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342405-gk-gunline/#findComment-4961499 Share on other sites
Corvus Fortis
And if no one comes in 24" range? And other gunlines will uttery destroy this one. Only orks and nids will be hurt probably, because they want to get close. But with some ranged support they probably will weaken troops first. I don't belive grey knights can outshoot anyone. Gentlemanloser
Setting up on the edge of a 12" DZ means unless your enemy camps in thier backline you should be able to shoot anyone. If they are in thier backline then i guess we need to suck up the -1 hit for a turn moving up. Weight of Fire seems to be more important than a few high S/AP shots. And with PO at least the Psilencers even wound T8 units on 5+. Just thinking of something other than DS half the army and pray for first turn charges. Capt. Mytre
It would take multiple turns to kill a landraider equivalent (like 3/4 turns, using everything). You need las cannons to deal with tough targets, otherwise you literally cannot deal with heavy armour/high toughness. Normally this is filled by CC with hammers, but as you're going gun line, you can't use that. Reclusiarch Darius
Spamming Purgators doesn't achieve much. They're kinda specialised into killing infantry, they don't do much to other targets barring luck rolls. We aren't really a gunline army. I think bringing Ravens and Venerable Dreads helps add some ranged anti-tank to the army. But trying to build around a ranged game is just not gonna work. Gentlemanloser
After losing 6 wounds off a Contemptor Dread from 90 Devil Gaunt shots, I'm starting to think that sheer weight of numbers is what 8th is all about. Who cares about that expensive twin Lascannon. Just throw more dots, sorry more shots, at everything you face. Drown them in dice rolling 'till they succumb. Constantine Valdor
This was actually going to be the next strategy I tried. Just pick up 10m Strikes and Purgators, and spam the crap out of Psybolt. Beams
Eh, the "throw more shots" is something a lot of people say, and their reasoning is usually the "all guns are better against elites/tanks than hordes" but thats a anecdotal thing, and the math isn't there. Sure, you can kill a dreadnoughts with Bolters, but you'll kill it quicker and more efficiently with meltas Everytime. Grey knights just don't have any melta or plasma. That's where our mortal wounds come in. Boost our Ld (warlord trait/banner), tank theirs (allies/relic), and cast purge soul/vortex of Doom/hammerhand. Gentlemanloser
Our Psychic Powers are not enough. 1 cast of Purge Soul, and/or Vortex. Or 168 shots that at the worst wound anything in the game on a 6, and wound the majority of units on a 4+. With reroll 1s that's 131 hits, and at 6+ to wound 22 wounds. Unless you can get a great Vortex off (which should be almost never...) our Psyhics aren't causing 22 wounds (yeah all be it before saves...) a turn. Especially given they can fail, be denied and scuppered by Strats.
