Jacques Corbin
Greetings brothers. So here is my crazy idea. Take the Solaq model, a Captain with Power Sword and Plasma Pistol, and stick him in a Vanguard Detachment as the HQ. Now add an Apothecary, a unit of stock Sternguard with their sweet 30" AP-2 SI Boltguns, and a unit of 5 Company Veterans with Plasma Guns and Chainswords. Spend 4CP to use Strike from the Shadows with them all, and spray down the enemy with Supercharged Plasma, 10 shots from the veterans, and 1 from the Captain, all rerolling 1s to hit. Now, read as written, the Veteran Sergeant has to take a Combi-Plasma, because only the veterans can take Special weapons. Am I right? Also, I figure that if I end up going second, the Apothecary will restore at least one dead marine, or heal the captain if they catch a charge. The vets will soak up wounds, for either the Captain or Apothecary, on a 2+. So the Chainswords are there solely for the extra attacks. It will be 3 for each veteran, and 4 on the Veteran Sergeant, for a grand total of 16 swings. The Sternguard have 11 total, but I want them to hang back and shoot/camp an objective. I figure that I just have to keep the Apothecary alive, but not be that guy, and bring 2 Apothecaries. Now, this little bundle of hate is 377pts, all totaled. And, it will be 4CP to deploy them all via SftS. I am not terribly concerned with them earning their points back, as the effect of disrupting my opponent will be the desired effect. Hopefully, if both the Sternguard and the Company Veterans Rapid Fire, they can delete a unit, or perhaps 2 from the field, forcing my opponent to shoot at them on his turn at -1, or move within 12" to fire at full BS and possibly attempt a charge. Now, remember, this detachment will not be operating in a vacuum. I intend to also run a Battalion with significant heavy weapon support, and and Assault elements to finish off and/or contain enemy units. Please keep that in mind. Thank you. Shadow Captain Vyper
It's a workable thought, but there are ways to optimize it: 1) If you intend to run a captain, you are better off converting him and giving him a Combi-Plasma, as the extra shot is worth the cost, especially on a BS 2+ model. 2) If you are open to it, you could convert the Solaq into a counts-as Lias Issodon, and use him instead of Shrike. This entire strategy is better suited to him and can save you a boatload of CPs (and drops). 3) If you need more staying power and less sacrificial status, you can consider swapping the vets for Hellblasters (assuming you don't have an anti-primaris agenda). Just some thoughts. duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342475-making-solaq-work-with-sfts/#findComment-4962988 Share on other sites
Jacques Corbin
Yeah, I am on the no Primaris train. Also, I am keeping the pistol for shooting in combat, supercharged headshot. I have considered the Lias conversion, but I want to give Solaq a shot at redemption. If I am bringing any successors, it will be Carcharodons Assault Terminators with Tyberos, an Ironclad, in a Stormraven, with Vanguard vets dropping in. Maybe give them Black Templars tactics.
