I have a small tournament coming up in January. Previously I have been having alot of success with small forces sitting behind a shield dread with lots of guns. With our new stratagem however I can't help but see the synergy between wulfen and WG terminators. I'm thinking drop them in with a wolf priest using our stratagem for rerolls on hits and rerolls on charges.

Do you guys think specifically at low points we can make an elite largely melee army work or is it just wishfull thinking and I should just stick to my castle lol.

Would like to hear your thoughts on any other good combinations and strategies you have found work. I'm trying to avoid the castle because though it's had huge success but it's not the most fun way of playing.

I would say 1k us too light on points to swing a pure melee army. I think at 1k you are running pretty basic units just to flesh out a force org.

At such low points I would be inclined to run my regular troop core (three th packs in razorbacks, 2 plasma 1 melta, pack leaders if points allow), a couple lower cost hqs (probably 2 or 3 rune priests) and then fill the rest with whatever. This base seems to work well from a mission play standpoint.

Yeah at low points I would lean on the fact that GH are pretty good troops, with cheap characters for force multiplier.

A shield dread is certainly nice tho as a big threat target.

But accept that the lower points you go the more the game favors armies like Guard who can just put down to much for low cost.

At a thousand points I've got:

Njall in TDA

2x5 man intercessor squads

Redemptor Dread with plasma incinerator, storm bolters and mini gatling cannon

8 Wulfen all with storm shields and hammers (bar the leard ofc)

2x7 Fenrisian wolves.

Comes out at exactly 1000 points.

Cheers guys, I have time for a few practice games so might give a GH list another go. I haven't been liking he standard marine too much this edition, I have found the change to ap makes them very killable so have largely stuck with WG for a few storm shields.

Thinking along the lines of Bjorn, shield dread, 3x gh, 2x RB and maybe a cheeky assassin in the back line.

Continuing along those lines, I'd suggest:

- Trade the GH pack without transport for intercessors, for more wounds and longer range support fire.

- Get yourself a RP, to fit a battalion, and to provide your dreads with cover (Storm Caller).

- With the assassin, keep in mind that unless he comes in an auxiliary detachment (-1 CP), his inclusion costs you ObSec. Scout snipers or reivers might be alternative interference threats.

Personally not much of a fan of dreads, but of course that's just a matter of taste. ^^

In my 1k battle this afternoon instead of them I'm running a jump WGBL (hammer&shield), jump WG w/ SBs & ccws, and one of the GH packs I'm not running small in razor, but big in rhino. Instead of an assassin I got reivers.

The gh without a RB I'm thinking of using out new stratagem on and having them appear in the back line, managed to change tyre list slightly sooner fitted in a rune priest to jumo in with them to give them cover. Figured that 2 up save will mean they will have to consider if it's worth diverting bigger guns. Like I say, I have a tried and tested list in my local gaming group that has been doing really well but it's a castle and I don't play space wolves to sit back and shoot lol.

Having a game tonight and have taken on board alot of you guys ideas, I will let you know how it will

I had a fun 1k list today with 3 WGBL on thunderwolves with frost swords and storm shield, 1 WGBl on thunderwolf with TH/SS, a thunderlord with kraken sword and storm bolter, 4 WGBL with jump packs and SS (1 fist, 2 frost axes and 1 frost sword) and 4 cyber wolves. Sooooo much fun!

My last 1k was a team tourney, but here's what I did, and it will continue to work till the next big FAQ nerfs characters.  Bjorn, Murderfang, BA Librarian Dread, Harald Deathwolf, Eversor Assassin and Culexus Assassin.  Your big problem is if you hit any missions that require infantry to hold the objective, but otherwise this list abuses the ever living $*#& out of the character targeting rule.  Your whole army is characters, three of which are dreads, you have anti psycher Culexus and a psycher of your own.  Deathwolf outflanks, assassins deepstrike, and you just pop the culexus right up front as close as possible to deny psycher powers, and force your opponent to only shoot at them.

I know, it's awful, and absuive, and totally against my nature.  But my local meta is brutal, and every list I was playing against either had a codex or was tzeentch with two daemon primarchs.  So I played the meta and hit back.  Best part was relic.  Just drop the assassin on the relic and walk away and watch your opponent waste an army's worth of shots at you.

Edit:  You wanna feel dirty, explain to your opponent "No, you can't shoot at my characters 18" away since I have a character in combat to your shooters 5" away, and the rules say you have to target the nearest if you are attempting to target a character, it doesn't clarify that the target must be viable"

I was thinking Bjorn, blizz dread, wolfen, and WG bikers or eliet of choice in a vanguard detachment. Wulfen flank, everyone else move forward to meet the wulfen in the middle of the enemies deployment zone. Then again, how many fenrisian wolves can you fit in at 1000 points?

Quite a lot actually @ 6 points a pup. but they'll need a Wolf Priest to keep them from running at the nearest whiff of enemy fire.

Greetings all

This is a great question, it got me thinking & this is what I come up with. Im thinking having a wolf priest on bike instead of WGBL. I'm only relatively new, so there's every chance this list is fail. But, as always, any advice is welcomed.

I previously would have gone hero spam but with the FAQ on the community page changing the way cjarec interact with other charectors for purpose if shooting I dont think it would work anymore.

On other news I had a practice game where me and a mate where trialing some lists. I went with Grey hunters, Bjorn razorbacks and a rune priest. He had Tau drone spam with a riptide drone controller and the guy they have that gives models extra shots. It's safe to say his 36 shots per unit of drones in 9 inch range made his fire power considerably better than mine. Chances out I will face him in the day if I do well. I have to say I was largely not impressed with grey hunters, I found that they lacked real punch. The rune priest And Bjorn where star drops but they usually tend to be.

I will give the list another go tomorrow because I don't want to base it just off 1 game but it does make me lean towards the more elite army I am used to running.

That change to character targeting was just a beta rule, and I believe that FAQ won't drop for 6 more months, it'll be part of the Bi annual FAQ drop.

The announcement of the bi-annual faq said March and September.
