Rockythedog
Hail Brothers of The Rout When I start to paint, do I need one of the undercoat rattle cans or can I just go straight onto the plastic with the base layer paint? TiguriusX
I use army painter sprays and use it as pseudo primer (for the plastic kits).Have used black, white and uniform grey all successfully so far on test models. My "fast" painting uses uniform grey as step 1 now I use the paint pots after that (base...layers...washes...etc) Edited December 22, 2017 by TiguriusX Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342628-painting-question/#findComment-4966448 Share on other sites
mercbat
In my opinion - undercoat is highly recommended if you're going to play with your minis. Paint holds better on undercoat and there's less chance to wipe it off with your hands after some time. tetsuhau
I use army painter wolf grey. Matches fairly well to Russ grey. Easy step 1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342628-painting-question/#findComment-4966487 Share on other sites
Deadnaughty
I would recommend you do yes. Paint sticks much better which lets you use thinner coats which keeps detail good. The end result of your model also changes based on if you undercoat in black or white (darker/lighter color). Or grey for more neutral (I prefer grey because light colors of black tends to suck. Yoyo ninja
Always undercoat. GW make a primer that you can paint on with a brush, but personally (and the general consensus is) use a spray can, it gives a good smooth coat to start. Then the rest of your layers will be nice and smooth (as long as you follow the golden rules [thin your paints and two thin coats of paint is better than one thick one]). Miniac's videos have great tips for painting, here is one for basecoating... https://youtu.be/eqCdoOrpI0M Even if you think you are a pro, his vids are worth a watch.
