TheCastigator
So I opted to totally repaint my GKs for this edition, as my painting has come a long way since I stopped playing 40k in 5th and picked up vampires in fantasy. I could probably do a few more details, but I am pretty happy with how these turned out I am still trying to get an old school demon hunters list to work. Haven't quite gotten there yet, but am on the way here. I tried a version of the inquisition paint job from the old Daemonhunters book. Got most of the bases done here. Aegir_Einarsson
Nicly done models:) One question as i can see you use scions as stormtroopers, but you use scion rules? TheCastigator
I've been testing a couple of different guard detachments. I do use the guard codex for the scions. Functionally they serve the same purpose as storm troopers, you get access to IG stratagems, and the stormtrooper regimental doctrine is a nice bonus, especially when it goes off with plasma. If you want to take a more competitive detachment, they blend into that as well, which is very helpful when you're adding Cadian heavy artillery support. I've run three 5 man plasma squads and a taurox prime with the gattling cannon/HSVG combo. It has worked ok and if you get the space, to drop them in, they will assassinate a high value elite target. The points increases in the guard book has reduced their utility, which is unfortunate. Not the most points efficient list, but I've always loved the old demonhunters list, uncompetitive as it was. The detachment rules make it workable. Aegir_Einarsson
So you use them as AM detachment? With tempestor prime as hq? Because, Maby i'm wrong, i thought that with inquisitor as hq, you can't use scions stratagems And CT because it is "imperium" key word detachment. TheCastigator
Yes, I do use a Tempestor as an HQ. Sorry, I guess I should have anticipated this line of questioning. You're correct about the detachments, which is why I also run a vanguard or supreme command detachment of inquisition/assassin units. Either one inquisitor, an acolyte, cullexus, and eversor; or three inquisitors, though with the beta smite change, that is less effective than it was. 4ndroid
Also as a IG + GK, I can highly recommend a command squad of Scions (tempestor prime + 4 plasma scions) [order 3 extra Scion plasma arms off Ebay $2ea they are a great, cheapish, suicide squad I use to deep strike and smash a troublesome tank, dreadnaught or misplaced character!! tempestor prime can give two commands when equipped with command rod "Take Aim" +1 to hit (so overcharge those plasmas!) "Bring it Down" +1 to wound for all those hit rolls! = instant lotsa AP -3 wounds on an opponents high value whatever! Aegir_Einarsson
It is worth it's points even after CA? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342693-look-at-these-pictures-of-grey-knights/#findComment-4968527 Share on other sites
TheCastigator
Scions are still alright, not as points efficient by a long shot. The command squad is limited to one per tempestor, so you can't spam them anymore. They are maybe a little expensive for a suicide unit, but I've used them to clear objectives on turn 3.
