Dolchiate Remembrancer
The yellow does seem pale for lamenters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342952-lamentors-test-figure-yay-or-nay/#findComment-4972843 Share on other sites
Charlo
Needs a touch more yellow. That said, you get the rest of the details on and it may bring it all together Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342952-lamentors-test-figure-yay-or-nay/#findComment-4972853 Share on other sites
micahwc
Round two. Grotsmasha
It is paler than any Lamenters I've seen before, but honestly, I think you should finish up all the details and show us again, as it will probably pull together a convincing Lamenter :tu: Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342952-lamentors-test-figure-yay-or-nay/#findComment-4972881 Share on other sites
Lord_Caerolion
A bit paler than I would go, but hey, anyone brave enough to do the checkerboard shoulderpads is enough of a Lamenter for me. Welcome aboard, brother! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342952-lamentors-test-figure-yay-or-nay/#findComment-4972894 Share on other sites
Charlo
Like it! I think some recess shading will help the brighter yellows pop. It doesn't overtly look like an Imperial Fist so you're already on the right track :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342952-lamentors-test-figure-yay-or-nay/#findComment-4973128 Share on other sites
9x19 Parabellum
I mean...what are you asking us for exactly. You basically have an off-yellow primed model. sockwithaticket
I'm seeing sand colour rather than yellow to be honest, especially with what seems to be brown shading. I always envision Lamenters as more de-saturated than, say, Fists, but not to this extent. Warsmith Aznable
I basically agree with Sock. Personally I think a heavy wash over a more normal yellow is enough to get the yellow just a touch darker than Fists, who I generally picture as naturally cleaner or more polished rather than inherently more yellow. Lord_Caerolion
Use some of the appropriately-named Lamenters Yellow glaze? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/342952-lamentors-test-figure-yay-or-nay/#findComment-4973707 Share on other sites
Warsmith Aznable
Use some of the appropriately-named Lamenters Yellow glaze? I honestly haven't figured out how that works. I put it on and it doesn't seem to do anything. I get my best results with Seraphim Sepia. It's more used to blend together and strengthen existing tones. Palwatch
I've had some success painting assault squad helmets by spraying white and doing 2 to three washes of cassandora yellow. Fahlnor
Good start in terms of technique, colour transitions and shadow/highlight placement. I would suggest a few things, in terms of the actual painting: 1) Push your contrast further. Earlier comment about it being a “primed Marine” are utterly silly, but you definitely want a higher level of contrast between your highs and lows. 2) Consider your light source on the front of the model. I think you want to add a fair amount of highlighting to the front grill on his faceplate and to the “swell” on his chest. In terms of the colours: 1) I agree with others that the colour isn’t what I would normally associate with Lamenters, but then if you look at Blood Angels, they range in colour from near pink through orange to brown, and everything in between. Personally, I’d look to use some GW Lamenters Yellow with a touch of Scale 75 Inktense Yellow to really raise the saturation of the yellow, but don’t feel you have to change the colour if it matches what you wanted in your head. 2) Careful selection of your basing will be quite important if you keep the colour as it is. Because so many base themes use very neutral colours, you want to be careful that the base and the model don’t meld together when they’re finished. Hope that helps! TheHarrower
Do a couple washes of Cassandora Yellow. That will strengthen the color and make it more yellow as well as shade the recesses. NemoVonUtopia
What is a good yellow for lamenters? I am slowly working on a test figure but so far all I've done is a base coat of averland sunset. I was thinking yriel yellow because I already own it. Lord_Caerolion
Personally I'm doing mine Averland Sunset. The Lamenters look more mustard-yellow in the Forge World books. Xenith
Heya, agree that it's looking a bit more beige than yellow at the moment, which is fine if that's what you're going for! The brown shading is also swamping out the beige a little - I'd start it lower down. Good luck on your crusade!
